    = Meat Loaf =

It really shouldn’t be a surprise anymore when an antivaxxer dies of COVID.

    “Never meet your heroes”

  8. - Friendly Bob Adams - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 9:13 am:

In previous winters we could always look forward to “pitchers and catchers report”… this year not so much.

  9. - Nieva - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 9:22 am:

My son teaches at a 500 student grade school. He told me last night that over 100 kids and 18 teachers out with COVID. The other school has about the same amount out.Looks like they are trying to power through in Southern Illinois..

  10. - JS Mill - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 9:22 am:

    =“pitchers and catchers report”=

Yep, it appears that the MLB has some kind of long term conspiracy against the SOX. 1994 and now this? Is it the ghost of the 1919 Black Sox?

I demand an immediate investigation (banned punctuation).

  11. - Pundent - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 9:48 am:

=It really shouldn’t be a surprise anymore when an antivaxxer dies of COVID.=

He did not consider the health benefits of mitigation. He felt that the government response to Covid; the simple act of wearing a mask and getting an effective vaccine, was purely political and an attempt to exert control. He said, “If I die, I die.”

What a foolheartedly thing to die over.

With this cold weather going on, I’m REALLY getting impatient for seeing my crocuses and daffodils.

Has any reporter followed up with the Rodney Davis reported county chair endorsers after Mary Miller announced and Trump endorsed her?

This blogger is claiming many of the endorsements were not legit or were misrepresented

This Duffelblog piece from 2012 is becoming increasingly relevant in Illinois politics these days and I thought other readers would appreciate it.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 10:23 am:

    Gotta be honest;

If one is about humanity, and vaccines, and safety, and hope…

Maybe realizing it’s a tragedy if one dies because of the virus is a better take then taking it to them in ways that show your lessened humanity?

  18. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 10:25 am:

I’m hoping pitchers and catchers can report, not counting on either side (MLB/MLBPA) to see the damage a real work stoppage means, lockout or strike, deal or no deal.

Baseball needs to see that a product for consumption is far better than millionaires striking against billionaires.

    Find and do the doable

  19. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 10:26 am:

===Has any reporter followed up with the Rodney Davis===

Yeah, I saw it. Davis campaign stands by their list. Notice that the blogger in question didn’t name a single person.

  20. - Pundent - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 10:40 am:

OW - Respectfully. I think it’s important that we recognize both the tragedy of unnecessary Covid deaths and the preventable circumstances that allow it to continue. Celebrities, be it Meatloaf, Eric Clapton, or Aaron Rogers, have some degree of influence over society and can often validate poor choices. And in some instances they are willingly encouraging fans to act irresponsibly. We know of of their objections to Covid mitigations because they want us to. It’s the use of celebrity to encourage irresponsible actions in the face of a public health crisis. It validates and legitimizes bad decisions. While that may not have been Meatloaf’s intent, it is unfortunately a consequence.

So we can recognize the tragedy in all of it but also recognize the circumstances that allowed it to exist.

Sometimes the simple expression of thoughts and prayers fall short.

  21. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 10:43 am:

===and the preventable circumstances that allow it to continue===

One outlet quoting a single unnamed source. It’s time to move on from this topic. Last warning. Let the man rest in peace.

  22. - Galway Bay - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 11:18 am:

Meatloaf was a great entertainer. Interesting Illinois connection Karla DeVito sang with him on some of his best material. She is from Mokena, Illinois.

  23. - Huh? - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 12:01 pm:

“The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

And everyone is huddled next to the heater today.

  24. - Lt Guv - Friday, Jan 21, 22 @ 12:36 pm:

Actually JS Mill, the lockout is a plot by MLB to prevent Cubs from embarrassing themselves like last season. This from a Cubs fan. No investigation required.

Also love how Raja pointed out to Pete Ricketts during a hearing yesterday the irony of him being anti vax & mask mandate as governor, yet he is an owner of a team requiring employee vaccinations and fans to wear masks indoors.

Lastly, Galway Boy, I did not know Karla DeVito was from Mokena. Thanks.
