Starting slow but today is my go-to-town day: bank, library, pharmacy, insurance agent, gas station and grocery. Then a nap. LOL

Just got an email notice from USPS that the four free test kits I ordered will be delivered on Thursday–15 days after I ordered.

  3. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 4:57 am:

Winter Storm Watch already out from late Tuesday night until late Thursday night for all of central Illinois including Springfield. the NWS click and point forecast for Chatham is already anticipating perhaps 14 inches of snow from this system. Strongly considering taking vacation days for Wednesday and Thursday (since WFH is not an option in my office).

Think they cancel coming down for session?

    Up and at’em for me.

Another two great playoff games yesterday, as the NFL tries to outdo itself, it seems, with each playoff round.

Matthew Stafford now has as many NFC Championships as both Rex Grossman and Aaron Rodgers, and while Stafford needed to beat EIU’s own Jimmy Garoppolo, I couldn’t be happier that it’s Stafford moving on, proving how great of a QB he’s always been.

well I see models that range from 4″ - 20 ” here and 6″ - 30″ in central Illinois. gonna be interesting. I’ll just watch it from home.

=Think they cancel coming down for session?==

And thus the Governor gives his State of the State/Budget address Wednesday virtually instead (perhaps from the JRTC), like last year?

  11. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 7:54 am:

The Better Government Association tried to have an online forum Saturday about the effects of the Cabrini-Green housing complex (and its redevelopment) on former residents and the neighborhood, but it was hacked.

  12. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 7:58 am:

What does Mayor Langfelder in Springfield have against literacy and reading? The SJR has a paywalled story today about the recent firing of former Lincoln Library (the city public library, not to be confused with ALPLM) director Rochelle Hartman. However, I suspect it’s similar to last Thursday’s Illinois Times story from former SJR reporter Dean Olsen:

    https://www.illinoistimes.com/springfield/mayor-fires-director-of-lincoln-library/Content?oid=14652702

“”I asked him, ‘Are you firing me?’” Hartman said. “He said, ‘Well, things haven’t worked out like we thought they would.’” Hartman said she asked for more specifics, but the mayor didn’t provide any. She said Langfelder offered her the option to resign, but she declined. [. . . ] She said she never received any feedback or direction on her leadership of a public library and wing of city government with 40 staff members and an annual budget of about $5 million. “Communication from City Hall has been thin,”

Time to fill the snow blower and refill gas can.

Ordinarily, there would be a weather front on radar. There isn’t anything with this storm.

Code Red. Code Red. Oops I forgot the Sinclair doomsday call has been discontinued. Just gonna snow a lot. I miss Joe Crain. Looking forward to sledding with the grandkids

Interesting couple of podcasts from the NYT The Daily on Covid and especially about new surveys. The departure between beliefs about it are not affected by age, sex, race, etc. But there are significant differences in political affiliation. I think I always thought that anecdotally; here’s some actual polling that says so. Part 1 last Wednesday is the survey results, Part 2 dropped this morning where Michael Barbaro interviews Dr. Fauci.

I might actually get to use my shovel this winter.

  17. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 8:50 am:

All going good so far, good lord willing. Too bad our Illinois homie Jimmy G didn’t win yesterday, but Stafford won. Feel pretty sorry for anyone coming from the Lions.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 8:53 am:

I’m traveling to STL on Saturday, hopefully in the coming days, be it rain, snow, flood, or ice, the region can recover quickly and winter can move on as the sunshine bathes Kendall County today.

  19. - JoanP - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 8:56 am:

    Not much happening today.

Groceries/household shopping, finish my library book so I can return it and pick up the one that’s on hold, feed the car, do some mending, etc.

  20. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 8:57 am:

==I’m traveling to STL on Saturday,==

During a time that any remaining NFL followers in STL wonder “what might have been” had Kronke deliberately not tried to sabatoge the Rams while they were still in STL only to get them back to LA–and with the team on the verge of a third Super Bowl appearance in the 6 seasons since their return to LA.

  21. - Give Me A Break - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 9:03 am:

As Springfield area resident I can say, we get 12-16 inches of snow, the Springfield area will pretty much grind to a stop. GA members better be in Springfield by Tuesday afternoon if they want to avoid the coming mess.

  22. - Nagidam - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 9:10 am:

If they have session with the potential storm, will the legislators go to the capitol to watch the budget address from the chamber? Do you have to open session with a quorum for the Governor to give his address? I suppose you do.

  23. - Retired and Still in Illinois - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 9:13 am:

Hoping for a quiet week at work and then off to Cincinnati for hopefully the last college visit with my daughter on Friday. Hoping the roads are decent by Thursday afternoon and looking forward to being in a Super Bowl bound town this weekend. I Remember the excitement in St Louis during their championship run.

I’m watching my neighbor across the street and his 4 year old. The child has conquered walking up and down the stairs, so now she has to do it 3 or 4 times whenever they leave the house.

Teachers Are Quitting, and Companies Are Hot to Hire Them

Businesses eager to fill jobs are offering former educators better pay and more autonomy

“It felt like a sinking ship,” Ms. Routon says of teaching school during the pandemic. “Nothing is changing and everything is a problem. It’s a hard state to live in all the time.”

From a WSJ article about how teachers are resigning en masse and companies are snapping them up. My daughter the middle school teacher told me that it was the best article about the problem written by someone outside the problem.

So now the IDOR wants everyone to have an account to submit their tax returns? a colossal waste of time and money. Great job, David Harris

Enjoying sunshine and seeing the snow on the news instead of in my yard. Being a snowbird has its benefits.

  28. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 9:57 am:

OW: I was cheering for Jimmy Garoppolo because he’s an Illinois guy, but also because I hate watch the Rams since Stan Kroenke left (i.e., screwed) St. Louis. Go Bengals (banned punctuation x 3).

Planning a walk for groceries at Division/Clark. Am concerned as an innocent bystander was shot Sunday afternoon at that location.

At least the shooter is in custody.

  30. - Peanut Gallery - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 10:34 am:

What a great time to live in the country. Glad we are stocked on most staples, the grocery store was feelin’ the hit yesterday.

    NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham:

Does Mayor Langfelder have to pay rent to live in your head? You just don’t like the guy and living in Chatham you can’t even vote against him. If he runs and wins in 2023 he will then be term limited out. Then you and the Sangamon County Dems can maybe may go head to head against the Sangamon County GOP with the winner to fix all that is wrong with Springfield.

Snowfall amounts keep getting bumped up in Springfield. Solid chance for a foot to a foot and a half Wednesday to Thursday.

==Snowfall amounts keep getting bumped up in Springfield. Solid chance for a foot to a foot and a half Wednesday to Thursday.==

The last time the Springfield area had 18+ inches of snow was reports of that amount near Chatham and Jerome on Mar. 24, 2013. When “only” about 9 inches at most was expected. But that was all wet, sloppy snow.

  34. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 5:00 pm:

    - Steve Rogers -

Tough not to root for Stafford, but Joe Burrow is as cool as any 25 year old who has won a national championship and can navigate the NFL playoffs with nary a worry.

Looking forward to one of these fellas talking about visiting an amusement park in Orlando after winning a Super Bowl.

  35. - FormerParatrooper - Monday, Jan 31, 22 @ 6:51 pm:

Welltge Chiefs lost, so where I am right now in Kansas everyone was a bit down today. I enjoyed the games the last two weeks, even tho I won’t see my team at the SB.

If the playoffs are any indication of what to come, football may be better for awhile.
