They should definitely do away with the time change. I have no idea why it hasn’t gone away.

Watched the IHSA boys 4A final. I hadn’t seen Glenbard West play until then. Oh my, what a great team. Their defense with the long armed defenders shut off most anything a very good Whitney Young tried to do. Pretty cool story that they’ve been together since middle school in this age of teams put together via recruiting (formal and informal). Also learned about their teammate lost to suicide near the beginning of the pandemic.

Thanks DDP…. I caught part of the game but didn’t know why they held up the ‘32′ jersey as I didn’t hear the announcers didn’t speak of it.
I feel better knowing our younger generation can acknowledge mental illness.

  3. - rabble - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 7:58 am:

I would prefer to stay forward all the time.

  4. - walker - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 7:58 am:

I’m with the no-DST crowd, because we should respect the sun’s position in the sky.

    Anniversary of the Golden Cannoli…

I like it when it’s lighter later.

“…but didn’t know why they held up the ‘32′ jersey”

I don’t know if the announcers mentioned it, but my wife located an article and sent it to me when she dove a bit deeper than I.

    Seconded.

Mr SG grew up in Michigan. He remembers walking to school in the dark during the year-round DST experiment in the ’70s. And really hating it.

  9. - PoorUniStudent - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:06 am:

I was talking with my friend and we all agreed on hating how the clocks change, but disagree on whether we stay behind or stay ahead.

  10. - former southerner - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:11 am:

Switched from regular coffee to a latte this morning for the extra caffeine boost. In retirement, I a teaching a single course online for UW @ La Crosse and they wisely started spring break this week. It has to be rough for the ISU students coming off spring break with DST starting for the first Monday back!

  11. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:21 am:

Daylight at 6:30 pm, in March.

Don’t know how you don’t like that.

  12. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:24 am:

I like the time change. It reminds me it will actually be warmer someday.

  13. - Club J - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:26 am:

It a beautiful sunny day and I miss my hour of sleep, but I like it stay light later. Today is a BIG DAY around the Club J Family house. Mrs. Club J and I are celebrating our 30 year Wedding Anniversary.

  14. - Bruce( no not him) - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:31 am:

Not sure what solution to time change is.
If go to standard time year round in June sunrise 4:30 AM sunset 7:30 PM
DST year round in January sunrise 8:22 AM. Sunset 5:45 PM
    Both options have problems

  15. - The Magnificent Purple Walnut - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:33 am:

Congratulations to Club J and Mrs. Club J on this beautiful sunny morning! Mrs. MPW and I are approaching our 45th. In all that time, we have never had a fight. Not that I won, anyway…

  16. - Suburbanon - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:36 am:

Yesterday I saw an old John Ford classic “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara on a big movie screen. After years of watching it on TV, it looked and sounded significantly better on the Big Screen. They show it again in theaters on the 17th.

  17. - cermak_rd - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:45 am:

congratulations to the Club J family! 30 years is awesome.

  18. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:52 am:

The best solution would be for every person to have the day off the day after the time changes–spring and fall.

  19. - Peanut Gallery - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:54 am:

It’s hard for the first few days…but I do love a later sunset.

  20. - Birds on the Bat - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:59 am:

Hard to play high school baseball/softball in the dark.

  21. - Dutch - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:11 am:

Yorkville Christian had some top notch players too at the IHSA State Basketball Tournament for such a small school. That school is really becoming a sports powerhouse. They won state in wrestling also. I can’t recall any school winning a state championship in boys basketball and wrestling in the same season in any Illinois class.

  22. - Excessively Rabid - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:17 am:

I’m for keeping DST but putting it back where it belongs. Get rid of this extended nonsense. It would take Congressional action, I think.

  23. - BluegrassBoy - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:20 am:

Girls Highschool Soccer games start today, thank goodness the weather is playing nice.

  24. - Product of the '60's - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:21 am:

Had been told you should visit Cong, the Irish village where “The Quiet Man” was filmed. Didn’t think it was necessary, not a big John Wayne fan, but our tour director took us there. Turned out to be well worth it. A wonderful old village. Descendants of villagers who were extras in the movie give tours to the spots where scenes were filmed. And in June when we went, yes, all of Ireland was magnificently green. b

Maybe the baseball and softball season could wait to start until early April like the rest of baseball? Since some years ballgames snowed out can be common. Even though we can occasionally still get snow even into mid-April, at least.

  26. - Amalia - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:32 am:

Remember, it’s March Madness…..both tourneys officially called that this year. (finally promoting the women’s game equally.) USA Today lets you fill out both your brackets.

  27. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:35 am:

Glad to see a bill advancing in the GA that would protect against being fired for consuming marijuana while not at work. With all that’s going on in the world, the last thing to be uptight about is a responsible adult consuming a product that’s less harmful than alcohol during non-work hours.

  28. - Top of the State - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:41 am:

The wife & I are taking an Atlantic repositioning cruise to Europe. Interesting that you lose an hour every day as you cross the time zones for the 6 days of the crossing. Like “Groundhog Day”. So we get several days of “springing forward”.

  29. - Suburban Mom - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:06 am:

Lived in Indiana for a few years, when the clocks in Indiana didn’t change, and it was GLORIOUS. It also made local TV deeply bizarre (in a fun way!) because half the year they had half-an-hour between syndicated daytime content and evening primetime content, and half the year they had an hour-and-a-half. Half an hour would be local news, but during the part of the year they had an extra hour to fill, we got all kinds of public-access-cable-type weirdness on network TV, it was GREAT.

I really don’t get the hating on DST, it’s one hour for goodness sake. I am just back from Arizona which is an hour behind (when I was there). Somehow I adapted. And adjusted again. And I only have two clocks left I need to manually change.

  32. - thisjustinagain - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 11:05 am:

Time to leave time alone. No more spring ahead/fall back. It’s the 21st Century, and we’re acting like we using oil lamps and candles to light homes and to farm. The change doesn’t save energy; it just moves usage around. As for kids walking to/from school in the dark, well, they get hit in broad daylight by idiots not paying attention or drunk, so the change isn’t helping that issue either.

  33. - MyTwoCents - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 11:25 am:

The 4A game was impressive and it was a great weekend of IHSA basketball all around. It was good to see downstate success (Liberty, Nashville, Monticello, Metamora, Sacred Heart-Griffin) & the 3A game between Metamora and SHG was an instant classic with a last second 3 to win it after 2 OTs. If you haven’t already I highly recommend watching how that game ended.

My wife told me that the SHG-Metamora ending made Sportscenter yesterday (she only saw the SC Top 10 on her phone last night, since we just have basic cable at home thus no ESPN).

Unless there’s more that’s the second Illinois high school postseason game-clincher that made SC in the last 3 years. A 2020 girls 1A sectional game winner for Lanark Eastland against Amboy made either #1 or #2 on SC’s countdown.

  35. - Unconventional wisdom - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 3:25 pm:

Particularly great for those who work a daytime shift and have more daylight in the evening to do thins with family.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 8:54 pm:

    - Club J -

    Congrats and best wishes,

    OW
