* Hmm…

That’s a good point about no contribution caps in the governor’s race. So what might actually be going on here?

* Let’s first go back to Monday and Jesse Sullivan’s appearance on WMAY radio

We need an outsider, you know, someone who actually has experience in the areas that matter most and that’s really what I want to bring to this candidacy rather than tearing down others which is the old school way of doing politics. I want to do politics differently. A new type of politics which is really a positive-focused campaign

Uh-huh.

* The D-1 tweeted out by Illinois Election Data shows that the Freedom Fund of Illinois’ chairman and treasurer is Rob Phillips III. Mr. Phillips III sold his company to Axiom Strategies in 2018. Phillips now works for Axiom. Jesse Sullivan’s campaign has disclosed paying Axiom almost $140K this year, including for consulting. Kristin Davison, who works at Axiom, joined Sullivan’s campaign last year.

So, while Jesse Sullivan won’t be doing politics the “old school way,” his consultant apparently will be handling all the, um, non-positive-focused campaign duties when it comes to attacking Richard Irvin.

* More from Sullivan’s WMAY appearance

I love our state, I want to make it better for our neighbors. And so areas that matter most, you know, corruption, meaning somebody who’s rooted in a set of values, mine are rooted in my Christian faith. And I want to bring that person who’s actually going to do what they said they were going to do and be a person of their word, honesty and character.

What a phony jerk that Sullivan is!

  2. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 1:14 pm:

I guess Sullivan’s ethics are an optional thing.

You’d think with blown caps Sullivan would honestly go out and defeat opponents in the sunshine.

Then again, a stolen valor Californian who seemingly is running to promote Crypto… this makes sense to the idea of the phony being the leading edge

Axiom is all over the place. They either were or are on Lauf’s campaign and they helped Youngkin in Virginia. That Phillips III name is on many documents too. Sullivan’s candidacy just does not seem salvageable to me especially after Ives backstabbed her friend and podcast co-host Kathleen Murphy (the Lt Governor candidate on the Sullivan ticket) and endorsed Bailey/Trussell. Catalina Lauf on the other hand will at least win the 11th district primary.

    This guy is Rauner Redux.

Her burn *cough* grift *cough* rate might disagree in the end, but Foster wouldn’t mind Lauf winning

Sometimes there are a lot of buffers, sometimes there are barely any.

One great way to oppose Mayor Irvin is to give away free ice cream and other treats at Deri Delite, I heard he hates that. I should know I live here.

Also free food at all our taco trucks (which are awesome btw) that would be another way to oppose him, just saying.

“And so areas that matter most, you know, corruption, meaning somebody who’s rooted in a set of values, mine are rooted in my Christian faith.”

I realize he’s courting an Evangelical Christian audience, but I still can’t help but read that as an underhanded dig at Pritzker being Jewish.

  8. - Pundent - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 1:39 pm:

Jesse Sullivan continues to say all the right things while he does all the wrong things.

  9. - New Day - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 1:40 pm:

    “This guy is Rauner Redux.“

Gotta disagree. Rauner hired a bunch of pros and spent a lot of time learning how to be a candidate. Jesse Sullivan is total amateur hour - the Keystone Kops Kampaign.

    Agreed. 100%

Both Sullivan and The Apostle Darren Bailey, if either are the nominee, will face a real backlash, deserved or not, by highlighting “Christian” ideals when it will be easily made to be a possible anti-Semitic kind of thing, if anyone would like to turn the message on its ear.

    This isn’t Alabama or Mississippi.

“Rauner hired a bunch of pros and spent a lot of time learning how to be a candidate.”

The negative effects from Rauner’s ruinous reign reverberate even today…Sullivan is Rauner Redux…and worse.

  12. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 2:09 pm:

“I want to make it better for our neighbors.”

    You mean neighbors like Indiana?

  13. - Huh? - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 2:09 pm:

    Anon at 2:09 twas I.

  14. - Streator Curmudgeon - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 2:42 pm:

I don’t want to turn this into a religious thing, but some Christian candidates are giving Christianity a bad name by using it to get votes.

As a Christian myself, I resent it.

  15. - Friendly Bob Adams - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 2:57 pm:

Too much of downstate Illinois has become too much like Alabama or Mississippi.

  16. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 3:09 pm:

Et tu, Jesse. Perhaps a speech coach for the “you know” colloquial habit that’s creeping into Sullivan’s speeches.

With a fine Stanford education, Sullivan should be a bit more polished.

  17. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 3:48 pm:

My oldest brother cured me of “You know” by punching me in the arm… B.F. Skinner style…it worked…positively…kinda like The Big Bang Theory tape pulling episode…ouch.

  18. - Pilgrim - Wednesday, Mar 23, 22 @ 8:37 pm:

Irvin’s primary negatives are through the roof. He’s a turkey and it’s two weeks before Thanksgiving.
