Speaker Welch bringing up some old boogeymen, namely Bruce Rauner and the Illinois Policy Institute, to set up the stakes for the upcoming election. He leads room in chant of “We won’t go back”… is exactly the framing of the real governing wins Democrats can point to and contrast.

I mean… Demmer and Brady refused a budget for Illinois for 2 years, a whole General Assembly. Demmer and Brady would be Illinois going back to Raunerism and hurting Illinois’ most vulnerable… Bourne worked tirelessly to hurt Illinois’ most vulnerable, aiding Rauner, and now she’s off the chess board.

    It’s a good strategy.

    “We won’t go back”

  3. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Aug 17, 22 @ 12:09 pm:

It should also be noted that the Illinois Policy Institute’s “Superstars” that Diana Rauner (and Bruce) felt would change things for the better in hurting Illinois to having such Radical Candor that Bruce’s wants would be realized.

They lasted, these IPI “Superstars”, weeks, some might not have lasted long enough for direct deposit to take effect in payroll.

IPI lineage and pedigree is disastrous, folks wholly incapable to do the job of governing, in a case not even realizing the legislative maneuvering… utter failures.

    “We won’t go back”

It works. It’s a good strategy.

    Hats off to IDCCA.

Packed house. 2000+, at least. And going back to the old format of tables allowed us to walk around and catch up with folks.

The program is always long, so no surprise, but it’s the unofficial fire up for General so I like it.

Unlike Bailey’s crowd yesterday, it looks like their enthusiasm allowed them to overcome the price of gas.

And that roads are somehow self-healing and don’t require periodic maintenance and replacement. Or that property taxes are used to fund the police.

  20. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Aug 17, 22 @ 2:25 pm:

Inflation, taxes, gas prices, violent crime, gun violence, jobs and the economy are all bigger issues that abortion in Illinois yet that is the most important issue to JB and the Democrats

=we won’t go back to cheap gasoline prices=

Fuel was $3.05 a gallon in August of 2019. I filled up in Springfield this week at $3.49. It’s not the story you want it to be.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Aug 17, 22 @ 2:45 pm:

===yet that is the most important issue to JB and the Democrats====

    - LP -

According to Bailey? CRT is a big issues.

    Bailey had “dozens” rallying yesterday.

I guess you are fine with a 16 year old being forced to carry a pregnancy to term. We’ll see more ads how Bailey is dangerous to women’s health.

Your support of Bailey is continually noted.

  24. - Teacher Lady - Wednesday, Aug 17, 22 @ 2:50 pm:

Not one mask in sight?? Then you weren’t looking very hard.

===Can they also promise to not go back to 20 more years of unbalanced budgets===

4 years is a good track record, even if it is not a pinky swear. Beats the heck out of an empty electoral promise from a contender.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Aug 17, 22 @ 3:42 pm:

=== Can they also promise to not go back to 20 more years of unbalanced budgets once the Federal money runs out?===

You are genuinely and wholly dishonest

I cite Charlie Wheeler, so many times, and his continued comments to give clarity to your dishonest take.

    ===- Charlie Wheeler- Friday, Jun 11, 21 @ 1:12 pm

Point of Information re Illinois Constitution and balanced budgets
The constitution requires the governor to submit a budget in which proposed expenditures “shall not exceed funds estimated to be available for the fiscal year.” The constitution further requires the General Assembly to make appropriations for the fiscal year “which shall not exceed funds estimated by the General Assembly to be available during that year.” Article VIII, Section 2.

For FY 2022, the General Assembly’s general funds appropriations are estimated to exceed funds available by $210 million, according to CTBA cited above.

Moreover, the constitution does not specify general funds; rather, the language would seem to include all appropriations from all 700+ funds maintained by the comptroller and treasurer. For FY 20, the most recent available, the comptroller’s annual “Traditional Budgetary Financial Report” showed a $5.751 general funds deficit on a budgetary basis to begin FY 21. However, the same report showed a $3.329 billion surplus in all appropriated funds on a budgetary basis to begin FY 21. That would seem to indicate the FY 20 budget met the constitutional requirement that appropriations not exceed available funds.

    Respectfully,
    Charlie Wheeler===

    Just *one* instance

    Good try.
