* River North and the Magnificent Mile were, as usual this summer, packed with people last night…

What’s on your mind?

    Rich,

Maybe check with Darren’s doorman if he is there?

  2. - former cubs fan - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:39 am:

cowboy boots are not ideal for riding scooters in the city. I’d recommend a lightweight cross trainer, or a solid heeled doc Marteen. also, if you’re going to keep the buzz cut, i might recommend a skull cap if you want to fit in with the young hipsters, or maybe shave it bald if you want to be cool in the financial district (or in fritchey’s neighborhood).good luck dare bear.

  3. - Moved East - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:40 am:

In the Purge all “Level 10” politicians were off-limits. Maybe that is why Senator Bailey is running for Governor, just to move up his level. /snark

  4. - FormerILSIP - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:40 am:

Senators McClure and Plummer are having a bit of fun on Twitter currently in regards to the SAFE-T act. Other than that, I’m just looking forward to mowing the lawn later today.

  5. - JS Mill - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:41 am:

I think he is headed to polo grounds in Oak Brook for more “cultural Immersion”.

  6. - Moved East - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:43 am:

Most on this blog are assuming Darren loses (I am surely rooting for it). How bad does he have to lose to give us a chance that candidates like him don’t win the primaries again? Am I wishful thinking that the Republicans can save themselves from this madness, or is a one sided drubbing only going to make this worse going forward?

  7. - H-W - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:45 am:

I drove across the state and back yesterday, from West to East and back. Google map took me through the “less traffic” (less traveled?) roads. I was reminded what a beautiful state we live in, and how each season has its own beauty. After 27 years in Illinois, I feel more an Illinoisan than a Virginian (as I was reminded driving through Virginia, Illinois).

This is going to be the last weekend of Summer 2022 and darned if I’m going to spend it catching up on work.

===How bad does he have to lose to give us a chance that candidates like him don’t win the primaries again?===

56+% agree with Darren Bailey when given 5 other choices.

Pack a lunch. It’s gonna be a while.

  10. - vern - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:53 am:

Since Darren is pivoting to Chicago culture and film criticism, I put together a little movie marathon for him to work through while he’s cozied up in the Hancock Building. It’s not a comprehensive list, but Darren’s also pretty low on time here.

    Backdraft
    Candyman (1992 original)
    The Killing Floor
    Hardball
    Barbershop
    Judas and the Black Messiah

  11. - JS Mill - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:56 am:

=How bad does he have to lose=

First, what OW said. The majority of voting republicans chose him, and there wasn’t a close second. 56% in a big field is a huge vote percentage.

In addition, Rauner was drubbed and here we are with an even less electable candidate. The ILGOP has gone full “old man yelling at kids.”

  12. - OneMan - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:56 am:

New garage opener today, hopefully, so I got that going for me.

  13. - Arsenal - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 8:57 am:

==How bad does he have to lose to give us a chance that candidates like him don’t win the primaries again?==

I think ILGOP basically has to disband.

I do think that if something happens to break the national stalemate in a pro-Dem way (nuking the filibuster, wining the midterms, 3 terms in the White House), Republicans will take a long hard look at their lunatic wing. But we’re a long way away from that.

  14. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:05 am:

The paradox of time. It took forever for Friday to finally arrive. Yet the summer flew by and it’s almost fall. Speaking of time, very critical stretch of games for the Sox, as their time is almost up this year. It’s finally time to beat the Packers.

  15. - Give Me A Break - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:17 am:

No one in the world does formal ceremony and pomp like the Brits. See the Queen’s Lying in State and how the citizens of the UK conduct themselves restores some faith that not every person has turned into a drama filled, social media hound lacking any sense of how to conduct themselves in public,

  16. - Chito - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:21 am:

The Latino Caucus event last night was held about a mile from his Hancock Center pied-à-terre; it’s a shame Dare Bear didn’t stop by and party with some of his “friends” in the General Assembly.

  17. - Northsider - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:29 am:

== Maybe check with Darren’s doorman if he is there? ==

Rich, do you know Carlton, his doorman?

  18. - West Side the Best Side - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:29 am:

Does Bailey worry that if he spends too much time staying at the Hancock his hands will start to go soft?

  19. - Amalia - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 9:36 am:

He lives in a building designed by an architect born in Columbia of a Peruvian mother and Canadian father, and an engineer from Bangladesh.

I admit I’m liberal and therefore biased in this take, but it is crazy to me how in this day and age with such ease of accessing information that there are so many people who are still apolitical and unmotivated, given how crazy the American right is.

The fact that so many people haven’t already turned on them en masse does not leave me super hopeful.

  21. - Chris - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 11:15 am:

    [movie list]

Gotta have Blues Brothers on there, just to remind him of Henry Gibson’s character, and the one line:

    I hate Illinois…

  22. - Early Illinoisan - Friday, Sep 16, 22 @ 3:16 pm:

Any update on the brick throwing incident at Rep. Cassidy’s office?
