* Pritzker campaign…

One day before Bailey takes the stage at a debate hosted by ISU and AARP, Bailey is caught calling the organization “selfish” and “immoral”

Normal, IL — Just one day before Darren Bailey faces off against Governor JB Pritzker, a newly uncovered video shows Bailey bashing AARP––one of the non-profit, non-partisan organizations hosting the first televised statewide debate.

In a newly uncovered Facebook Live video from 2020, Bailey called the organization “selfish,” “immoral,” and is leading to the “destruction of society as we know it.”

Don’t believe us? Listen for yourself.

“Another article that came out last night, that I shared the money continues to pour in, uh, to Mike Madigan. And it’s coming from organizations like the Illinois Education Association, it’s coming from organizations like AARP who are supposed to be ultimately protecting the rights of, of the elderly. Uh, but they’re not, they’re they’re, they are part of the reason, uh, that government continues to grow erratically. And, and, and now that reason that we need government needs your money. Many of the, uh, state sector unions are behind, uh, are behind a dumping money into Mike Madigan’s pocket. So, uh, again, they have a selfish view of, we want more, that’s their, that’s their message. And that’s what they’re after and why on earth. Um, many of these organizations choose to, uh, solicit to, you know, the immoral ideas like abortion and, and recreational marijuana and on and on and on. I have no idea, but they do, they’re pushing this. It’s just almost, uh, the, the destruction of society as we know it.”

The video is here. Starts around the 7 minute mark.

I checked and couldn’t find any contributions from AARP or the American Association of Retired Persons to Friends of Michael Madigan, the Democratic Party of Illinois, Democratic Majority or the 13th Ward Democratic Organization.

The group did, however, give more than half a million dollars to push the graduated income tax in 2020. And Bailey did talk extensively about opposing the Fair Tax before he went off on the Madigan tangent. So, maybe that’s what he meant?

Look, say what you will about Darren, but you can’t deny the power and eloquence of his speech.

I won’t join AARP, and do tend to think that they are a bit self-serving and laser focused on their membership at the expense of the rest of society. However, I certainly wouldn’t go as far as Bailey, and I can be critical because I’m not running for anything.

    Social media, amirite?

Even televangelists say things that make no sense, especially to the honesty of thought.

Keeping in mind the grift come December and January, this might lower the take if seniors catch wind of this.

Think about the crew assigned to watch all the televangelist rants.

Doing the work of the …

    I’ll leave it there.

Hey, Beetle…I heard the AAA Motorclub paid Venezuelan voting machine mechanics to rig the 2020 election.

= they have a selfish view of, we want more, that’s their, that’s their message=

Says the guy who wants more public money for his personal private school that engages in indoctrination using racist and sexist materials from BJU

With the amount of things leading to the destruction of society as we know it, it’s a miracle we have a society left at all.

  7. - Huh? - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 3:42 pm:

There went the senior citizen vote.

  8. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 3:42 pm:

Bailey is a True Believer, just like Dan Proft

They believe there are two kinds of folks in this world: Taxpayers and Tax Eaters, and that anyone who receives government funds is a Tax Eater.

Unless it’s Bailey of Proft themselves who are on the public dole.

Isn’t that pretty much the whole point of interest groups - to be self-serving and focused on their membership at the expense of the rest of society? Organizations that are focused on the rest of society at the expense of their members, probably really aren’t.

Roadrager nailed it. Rich’s question about what Bailey meant is hard to answer whenever Bailey speaks.

I get that. I guess I prefer organizations somewhere in the middle with a little broader worldview.

== Bailey called the organization “selfish,” “immoral,” and is leading to the “destruction of society as we know it.” ==

Sounds like the NRA to me. We are certainly wired differently.

  13. - thoughts matter - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 3:54 pm:

A new group for older Americans has been pushed by the conservative crowd as an alternative to AARP. It’s called AMAC- Association for Mature American Citizens. Some of their members feel that AARP is too liberal for them. That’s probably the people Bailey was trying to get a message across to.

Now we know why he was so pro-Covid. Knocking off some of those pensioners will slow the growth of government. 1/2 snark

Nah, he’s talking about that other group of old people. He’d never take anything away from me. /S

  16. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 3:59 pm:

Apparently, Darren Bailey never enrolling in Speech 101 while he studied at Lakeland College in Matoon.

Between the ums, the uhs, and the you knows, Bailey is the antithesis of clear, concise, and cogent speech.

Rambling on about nothing as usual.

  17. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 4:00 pm:

So Bailey says recreational marijuana is “immoral” and the AARP is not protecting elderly rights and is supporting ideas that will destroy society as we know it?

That…..would make a fun campaign commercial for someone wouldn’t it?

  18. - Give Me A Break - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 4:18 pm:

Those retirement communities are hell holes.

  19. - Ugh - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 4:36 pm:

Everyone needs a lobbyist, including seniors is my take. So much money at stake, not to mention public policy decisions that could affect the life of seniors, retirement, healthcare, nursing homes, taxes, list goes on for a long while. And AARP lobbyists only need to focus on how anything proposed might affect seniors. That’s not self serving. That’s just lobbying/advocacy. Seems to me that’s what they do, and they do it well and also that members really value and trust the organization. And their “free” magazine once you join is nifty and informative. Haha. Just entirely bizarre that he would go after the AARP. That is going to make a really effective commercial or ten, right?

  20. - Curious citizen - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 4:53 pm:

Just a side note: Why is the debate between Budzinski and Deering being held at the exact same time as the gubernatorial debate? Or did I read the schedule wrong?

  21. - MoralMinority - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 5:06 pm:

I’m kinda thinkin’ it might be Darren who is selfish and immoral.

  22. - danray - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 5:45 pm:

    >

    It’s all that recreational marijuana.

  23. - danray - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 5:45 pm:

The reason why the retirement communities are hellholes.

  24. - OneMan - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 6:07 pm:

Considering my AARP magazine showed up today with Adam Sandler on the cover, I would say the ‘recreational marijuana’ ship has sailed.

Not my dance, but I am not sure how pot is immoral.

  25. - Lagertha's Shield - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 6:26 pm:

Rudy’s Teeth, that’s Lake Land, two words. But you’re right - there’s no way a performance like this would have gotten a passing grade in Mr. Ozier’s speech class there at the time.

  26. - MisterJayEm - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 6:52 pm:

Bailey’s enemies list is longer than Nixon’s.

so, points for honesty about his position and demerits for timing? wow. more and more bizarre.

He was going for exponentially but the word was too dadgum big.

Spot on. I think Darren’s Dictionary would be a good CapFax nickname for the final month of the campaign season…
