* It’s Friday! Last night’s Bears game was painful, but at least the weekend is close. What’s going on in your part of Illinois today?

No wind and no rain means I can finally get the roof decking done on my garage project.

Side note: If you want to lose 25lbs, just build a 700sq/ft garage yourself.

  2. - Colin O'Scopy - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:37 am:

The Bears played (and continually play) awfully.

I am now actively rooting against the new stadium in Arlington Heights until the McCaskeys sell the team.

  3. - Andersonville Right Winger - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:38 am:

    Go Illini beat Minnesota

  4. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:38 am:

Last night’s game was so bad, I’m taking it back to Kohl’s for a refund and $5 KohlBucks #AmazonReturn

This weekend? Making homemade stew this morning, let it percolate a bit, enjoying some pour over coffee… I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if I found my way to Galena for a day trip Sunday.

    Fall in Illinois is beautiful

  5. - AcademicUnionStateEmployee - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:41 am:

I will go on a limb and say the Bears do not win again until a month from yesterday. Nov. 13 at home vs. Lions. And even that might be a big maybe.

  6. - Give Me A Break - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:41 am:

Putting the garden to bed, forecast for the 217 shows a killing freeze early next week. Stripping Tomato plants of fruit and cleaning out the various garden beds. I will need an IV of Ibuprofen by Sunday night.

  7. - Scott - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:47 am:

My daughter is going to be at a marching band competition at WIU tomorrow, so that’ll take up half the weekend. It goes from 3 to ~9 PM and involves 19 HS bands from mostly western and central Illinois (although there’s a couple from near the Chicago area and one from down near St. Louis).

  8. - Gravitas - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:52 am:

I watched Justin Fields play for Ohio State. He is a much better athlete than the W/L record would indicate. He does not have much to work with playing for the Bears. Two bobbled passes at the goal line or end zone last night were really costly. Without the miscues, Chicago could have won two exciting games this week.

Willy wave as you drive by.

  10. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 8:59 am:

Does Arlington Heights still want the Bears? Same old, same old with this team. Will the stories of the current coaches and QB wind up the same as so many before them?

  11. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:06 am:

    ===wave as you drive by.===

    Will do.

    :)

Hope the colors are starting to pop, getting mixed thoughts to it, I’ll see for myself

    == Putting the garden to bed… ==

Ditto. Brought a dozen pepper plants in to overwinter in the basement, along with my wife’s potted herbs.

  13. - Proud Papa Bear - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:21 am:

The Bears have been good for my health. Whenever they play a night game I go to bed early.

  14. - CT Guy - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:27 am:

At least with last night’s game, I won’t have to be disappointed by the Bears this weekend!

  15. - Cool Papa Bell - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:33 am:

@Scott - Its one of the best days in High School band all year. Enjoy the day at WIU.

High School football and sports in general were a flash point during the pandemic. But I’m glad it’s week 8 and the playoffs are getting closer. The game, the bands (although ours will be at WIU), the fans and the community aspect make it so much fun.

  16. - Joe Bidenopolous - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:36 am:

The cross country meet and fall ball playoffs will be a bit chilly this weekend but hopefully the kids get to play both days. Otherwise this weekend, it’ll be a bunch of preparing - putting the garden to bed, tending to the yard, that sort of stuff

  17. - Earnest - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 9:38 am:

Bivalent booster plus flu shot today. Have some old scifi movies queued up on my Amazon watch list and food in the fridge in case tomorrow’s a bleagh day. The little spot from my Monkeypox vaccincation is taking forever to go completely away. Took a little while for that one to make it to my county, but I’m good with how IDPH prioritized the rollout geographically.

==At least with last night’s game, I won’t have to be disappointed by the Bears this weekend!==

There’s also the hope that the Packers lose this weekend. To at least make the Bears loss not seem as bad.

  19. - very old soil - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 10:37 am:

No spectacular colors here in western Stephenson County–not many maples. Peak here is predicted to be next weekend. If you don’t get enough color around Galena, just head north a bit you might even get some cheese curds.

    - very old soil -

Thank you so much for the tip, and update.

I’ll keep all that in mind, maybe rethink and go next week(?)

    Be well

==I am now actively rooting against the new stadium in Arlington Heights until the McCaskeys sell the team.==

I am also secretly hoping that the Bears lose out the rest of the season, with some losses in embarrassing fashion. In hopes that will motivate the McCaskeys to sell.

  22. - Amalia - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 11:01 am:

oh, cleaning out the garden. I am so behind. can the frost tamp the plants down and then I will rake them out?????

  23. - Nearly Normal - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 11:15 am:

Watering my bushes and perennials before the ground freezes. We are being reminded that our area did not get the needed rains this fall.

  24. - don the legend - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 11:41 am:

==In hopes that will motivate the McCaskeys to sell.==

You should have put snark on that comment. Like losing the last 35 years has motivated them to sell. NFL franchises are the one sure place you can’t lose money.

  25. - Last Bull Moose - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 11:56 am:

For more than 10 years I have been arguing that getting a good O-line is more important than the quarterback. Bears keep making my case.

Have been seeing a flock of 4 Sandhill cranes up by Geneva. Freaky looking birds with the red feathers around the eyes. Keep thinking they will leave for Florida or Texas soon. I don’t think their decision will be driven by tax rates.

  26. - Steve Rogers - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 12:21 pm:

I plant garlic every year (which I plant in September), so while the rest of garden is cleaned out and waiting for spring, my garlic has sprouted and looks great.

  27. - AcademicUnionStateEmployee - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 1:16 pm:

==Like losing the last 35 years has motivated them to sell.==

But in those 35 years the worst record was only 3-13 in 2016.

Although Wanny’s last two years (’97 and ‘98) were lucky to even get their four wins those years to begin with considering the teams and coaching they had.

If the Bears lose out to go 2-15 the rest of the season that will be the worst record since the 1-13 in 1969 (when they lost out on drafting Terry Bradshaw on a coin flip).

  28. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 14, 22 @ 1:27 pm:

    - AcademicUnionStateEmployee -

There’s no way the McCaskey family is selling a $6 billion (with a b) asset based on a silly record of the team.

The adults are aware that while it’s a family business, small shop, there’s no financial incentive to sell a business that in one EFT it’s entire operating cost is covered for the year and then some, and the value of this turnkey operation has only increased in value.

Owners only care about the cash record, not the on field record.

The 3rd largest media market, the largest unshared media market too… they don’t care if you think they’re upset, they are counting money.
