Monday, Oct 17, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

People Who Play By The Rules PAC has launched a new ad, “UN**** ILLINOIS” featuring an exchange from a segment on the #1 Podcast in America, The Joe Rogan Experience between Rogan and Illinois native Will Harris.

:30 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n1bnzloS4s&feature=youtu.be
TV Script:

America’s #1 Podcaster and Bernie Sanders Supporter
Joe Rogan Discusses THE PRITZKER PURGE LAW

HARRIS: Didn’t Illinois just pass some new law?

ROGAN: They’re essentially eliminating cash bail for almost everything dangerous. Second degree murder. Arson! So you light a guy’s house on fire? Get right out of jail. Drug induced homicide. Robbery. Kidnapping. Aggravated battery. Burglary. Intimidation. Aggravated driving under the influence. Fleeing and eluding drug offenses, and threatening a public official. NO BAIL.

HARRIS: What??

ROGAN: Yeah they’re ****ed.

UN**** ILLINOIS.

Vote NO on Pritzker.

    Subtle.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 5:31 pm:

So.. it’s a good ad because it uses a derogatory, ugly, disgusting term to appeal to base voters?

I do not identify with this party. It makes me ill, it gets no new voters (objectively) to Bailey.

    it’s a D

All those wacky Covid home remedies took a toll.

    ==threatening a public official.==

This part always gets me. State Reps and Senators are public officials yes? Why would they pass a law saying this wasnt eligible for pre trail release? Makes no sense.

Joe Rohan’s understanding of criminal Justice almost rivals his knowledge of infectious diseases.

Surprised Rogan slimes around with Big Words. Big step down. Maybe he got Uline$ ad buy

  7. - Socially DIstant Watcher - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 5:56 pm:

Proft is trying to share the echo chamber with the broader public. Dems should have clarified what the act did and what it didn’t do. Even if they didn’t, Proft could still broadcast this lie, but the audience would be better prepared for it. This lie has been repeated so many times many people don’t know that. Come February, after the law’s been in effect, the lie will be clear, but maybe this will give pause to some voters before November.

Did they include the quote from Rogan where he called himself a “dumb ” and said he very rarely actually knows anything about what he’s talking about? No? Weird

  9. - Commissar Gritty - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 5:58 pm:

As I’ve been telling constituents who call our office, if it sounds too crazy to be true, it’s probably made up.

“America’s #1 Podcaster and Bernie Sanders Supporter”

I’m old enough to remember that Father Charles Coughlin was once “America’s #1 Radio Personality and Franklin Roosevelt Supporter.”

But he too found his greatest fame in the realms of conspiracies, nativism and bigotry.

  11. - KSDinCU - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 6:06 pm:

Unsurprisingly, Bernie Sanders has long been a proponent of ending cash bail.

  12. - Roadrager - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 6:18 pm:

I do think that this ad is a useful tool in one way. It shows exactly what Dan Proft thinks of his audience of one.

  13. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Oct 17, 22 @ 6:20 pm:

    “Bernie Sanders Supporter Joe Rogan”

Bernie would be appalled by this ad and would support Illinois’ efforts at easing institutional racism. He’d probably say we don’t go far enough.

The polling numbers show how well the campaign of super-stoking the right wing is going for Bailey and Proft.

“almost rivals his knowledge of infectious diseases”

Is he not Dr. Rogan to Aaron Rodgers?

Can’t wait til Proft moves to FL.

I’m sure this will be the crime as that finally works. This, or the next one. Worst case scenario, the one after that. Just cut one more check, Mr. U-Line.

oh I’m so not surprised that the Bernie Sanders mention is there. remember, way back in 2016 a surprisingly large percentage of Bernie voters went for Trump. a number of studies showed this and one Bernie delegate from Illinois posted this. so many of them simply want disruption so invoking St. Bernie helps them with that. hurl.

  18. - Stormsw7706 - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 7:18 am:

I’ve spent 5 minutes of my life listening to Rogan. After 1 minute I started counting his F bombs and there were 14 by the 5 minute mark. Six were used to describe a mattress he was hawking. We cancelled our Spotify account after he inked his mega deal with them. What a clown.

  19. - Techie - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 7:55 am:

    @Amalia

It’s only a “surprisingly large percentage” if you don’t compare it with other elections in modern times. For instance, more Clinton supporters voted for McCain in 2008 than Bernie supporters voter for Trump in 2016: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/24/16194086/bernie-trump-voters-study

Voters aren’t as predictable as we might think, and their reasons for supporting one candidate over another often defy expectations.

In a similar vein, while I think at first glance the ad is trying to appeal to leftists by mentioning Bernie, it’s probably more of an appeal to the conservative-leaning folks who would say, “see, even Bernie thinks this law is crazy!” It’s an appeal to people who have a distorted world view, which is to say, the GOP base.

**Can’t wait til Proft moves to FL.**

    He already has…

  21. - Alice Childress - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 8:36 am:

If you’re casting a vote based on what Joe Rogan is saying, I’m not sure I’d wanna be social with you. After reading M. Greene’s piece in NYT this morning, I’m convinced we’re moving away from politics and toward reality/popular TV. Look what you’ve done to us, internet/technology!

  22. - Interested Bystander - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 8:41 am:

“threatening a public official. NO BAIL.”
    There’s a signal.

  23. - sulla - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 8:47 am:

In my community, this Safe-T-Act stuff has permeated down to the City Council level and the conservatives are having a field day. Our police chief said on-record last night that on January 1, the police dept. will be forced to release from jail more than one person involved in criminal shootings. There was an audible reaction from the council chambers when he said that.

This thing has been a huge gift to the GOP and you are deluding yourselves if you think that the average voter understands the nuances of the act enough to separate noise from fact.

  24. - Jesse - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 8:47 am:

Isn’t the definition of insanity hiring Dan Proft over and over and over again and expecting a different result? I’ve see we’ve hit the “screaming bro” phase of the Proft campaign cycle where we attempt to turn off every moderate in Cook and the Collar Counties.

  25. - punnyprint - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 8:47 am:

So sad they are scaring people with this. Just because there is no bail does not mean they will be released to the public. This type of misinformation, or lack of information is only for sensationalism.

  26. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 9:12 am:

==This thing has been a huge gift to the GOP and you are deluding yourselves if you think that the average voter understands the nuances of the act enough to separate noise from fact.==

I don’t know if anyone is thinking that, but also you are not going to find many average voters at a city council meeting.

  27. - Baloneymous - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 9:34 am:

Assuming that Proft supports the legalization of marijuana since Joe Rogan gets high on his own show during some of these “serious” political and public health discussions. Jeesh.

  28. - Anthony - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 9:48 am:

    – it’s a D –

right.. I am sure people will think contrary to Joe’s opinion on this.

  29. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 9:52 am:

===I am sure people will think contrary to Joe’s opinion on this.===

Clearly, make a case, not a driveby, make a real case to what new voters this ad brings.

Bailey is trailing, by all accounts, even Bailey’s

What dues this ad do to get folks not already with Bailey?

    Early voting has begun, friend.

  30. - XonXoff - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 10:07 am:

I think the ad would play pretty well with some younger voters I know. Fortunately, most of them live in Missouri.

  31. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 10:12 am:

==right.. I am sure people will think contrary to Joe’s opinion on this.==

The problem is: are they going to consider Rogan’s opinion at all? What’s going to make this ad cut through the noise?

  32. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 10:42 am:

The spin on the SAFE-T Act should be this: beginning January 1, anyone arrested for a felony will be held without bail. Only if a judge decides that the accused is NOT a threat to others, will that person be released from jail.

  33. - Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 11:46 am:

Bro Science/Politics is the clear route to the bottom…Bro.

  34. - anon - Tuesday, Oct 18, 22 @ 3:28 pm:

    @47th Ward…

better amend the law so it actually says that then
