Still relishing the fact Da Bears actually looked like a viable football team last night. A pleasant surprise, and then getting some needed rainfall today. A good day.

  2. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:02 am:

Good morning indeed after last night’s owning of Boston teams by the Bears and Bulls.

  3. - Langhorne - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:02 am:

Cold, rainy, morning. But it seems glorious and sunny, with a win over New England. Let’s see. The Bears are three and four. And my, my, my. Green Bay is three and four. Delightful.

The Obama ads were fun. Mailed my ballot yesterday

  4. - Vote Quimby - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:03 am:

Some needed rain is falling, and Da Bears actually looked like a viable football team last night. All is well

  5. - Hot Taeks - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:05 am:

    Victory Tuesday feels great!

  6. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:08 am:

Could the end of a drought be a metaphor for the end of a metaphorical drought? (Full disclosure…I’m not holding my breath.)

  7. - tea_and_honey - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:08 am:

Actually excited by the rain - hoping it will knock some of the dust out of the air and give my allergies a break.

===actually looked like a viable football team last night===

Considering the opponent, I disagree. Yes, they had a good night, but now let’s see how they do against Dallas.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:14 am:

The Cowboys game, also on the road, with a tougher opponent with more healthy weapons, it will be a good measure for this Bears team.

The running game flourished last night, will it in Big D.

Also, Fields takes really big hits, that needs to end, and I’m only talking about hits in the pocket, not when he’s running

  10. - JoanP - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:23 am:

It’s a gray, rainy, dreary morning here in Chicago.

  11. - Dysfunction Junction - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:29 am:

Speaking of New England, I drove through Washington Park in Springfield on the way to work. Looked like autumn in Vermont. How many of the red, orange, and yellow leaves will still be on the trees after today’s rain and wind is anyone’s guess, but it sure is pretty while it lasts.

  12. - H-W - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:30 am:

Rain. It’s like manna from heaven. Only better.

  13. - Future - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:36 am:

Headline “Illinois Governor Race most expensive”… all because of one candidate. Ha.

  14. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:02 am:

===but now let’s see how they do against Dallas.===

Don’t harsh my buzz dude. The Bears played almost like a real NFL team on prime time last night. I’m gonna enjoy it for now and worry about Dallas on Sunday.

A friend from my church who is a former SJR staffer posted this a few days ago on his Facebook page. He gives a lot of insights on the behind the scenes destruction by Gannett on the SJR and their other papers. This is what he shared the other day, and after reading it I’m thinking more print paper days in Springfield may be coming to the scrap heap soon (or perhaps going all digital).

“Gannett will be requiring employees to take one week of unpaid leave in December and is seeking volunteers for buyouts, CEO Mike Reed announced in a staff-wide email Wednesday.

The company also has paused o”verall hiring and will temporarily suspend matching contributions to employee 401(k) accounts starting Oct. 24. The email, which was sent companywide though some staff said they didn’t receive a copy, came two months after Gannett laid off 400 employees and eliminated 400 open positions in response to a bleak second quarter.

“These are truly challenging times,” Reed wrote. “The company continues to face headwinds and uncertainty from the deteriorating macroeconomic environment which has led the executive team to take further immediate action.”

“Gannett, which is the nation’s largest newspaper chain with more than 200 print papers, has struggled significantly in recent years. In its most recent financial report, Gannett reported it lost $54 million during the second quarter. Its shares have since plummeted, continuing a downward trend. Gannett stock is now trading at $1.40, down 77% over the past year.

“The company also is saddled with more than $1 billion in debt from its merger with GateHouse in 2019. Earlier this month, Gannett reported it had paid down $55 million of that debt since June 30. It also will be selling $65 million to $75 million in real estate and other assets.

“Early Wednesday afternoon, Gannett released a set of FAQs about the new cost-cutting measures, but some details remain uncertain. The company did not specify when it would resume matching contributions to 401(k) accounts or how many buyouts it is seeking. (Gannett later made the FAQ guides private).”

granted it’s not the Pats with Brady, but hearing national talk voices on the sports shows this am talk about how Eberflus outcoached Belichik is really sweet. unless of course I dreamed it all last night.
