Given the Attorney General’s Office played a key part in negotiating the recent settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors, will you commit to insuring those settlement funds coming to Illinois will be used for prevention and treatment of addiction issues and not disappear into the black hole of GRF spending.
- Electric Lemonade - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:40 am:
What past Illinois attorney general or a current/former attorney general from another state do you consider a good role model for the type of attorney general the State of Illinois needs?
If elected, will you faithfully represent and enforce the SAFE-T Act as written and intended? Will you demand county-level states attorneys prepare for January 1st, by determining which currently detainees in their jurisdictions should require continued bail?
According to the website of the Illinois Attorney General, one job of the AG is to “Litigate to ensure state and federal laws are followed and respected.” If elected, would you commit to litigating cases to enforce duly-enacted laws even if you do not personally believe they should have been passed? For example, state and federal laws related to public health measures or weapons bans?
Can you define defamation? And how does it apply to elected officials?
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:55 am:
How would you use the office to protect consumers from predatory businesses and business practices? I support AG Raoul on abortion and defending the state’s COVID response, but he should have to elaborate an agenda for the rest of the office’s responsibilities too.
The AG’s office plays an important role in ensuring that charities operating in Illinois are governed properly and using the funds they collect in a responsible manner. What would you do to increase the office’s scrutiny over charities to prevent them from defrauding Illinois residents?
How would you reassure the public that the AG website and the FOIA and OMA Training Portal will be secure and free from future hacking/ransomware problems?
For Devore: Having zero experience as a prosecutor, what knowledge and/or experience do you have to prepare you for all of the prosecutions you state you will undertake as AG?
As the state’s chief law enforcement official, do you feel it’s in your job description to clarify for 102 state’s attorneys fact cs fiction in the SAFE- T Act?
Illinoisans want free and fair elections, settled at the ballot box, not in our courts. As AG, how would your office handle frivolous election lawsuits and prosecute insurrection attempts from election deniers? More to the point, would you seek prosecution of those ‘funding’ the storming of our Capitol over an election?
Background: Uihleins, owners of Wisconsin company, gave millions to group sponsoring the Jan. 6 March for Trump
In august, DeVore claimed the Biden student loan forgiveness program was “unconstitutional” and “unfair.” A lawsuit by AG’s from red states was recently dismissed.
1. Specifically, for both candidates, is the Biden policy constitutional and fair?
2. Generally, what issues do you expect you might intervene in at the federal level over the next four years?
Do you feel the Attorney General’s office should work to reduce rising crime in Illinois, and if elected, what specifically would you do?
- Wilmette Talking to Winnetka - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:50 am:
Illinoisans are always concerned about the influence of money on policy. Governor Pritzker has funneled substantial resources into the Democratic ticket, just as Republican Dan Proft has been a major backer of the Republican ticket.
Mr. DeVore: can you name a policy issue where you disagree with Dan Proft?
AG Raoul: can you name a policy issue where you disagree with Governor Pritzker?
The OAG has hundreds of employees across the state that depend on effective leadership in order to effectuate their duties.
AG Raoul: During the pandemic your office was plagued by technological issue after a ransomware attack. Today, attorneys from your office still cite to tech issues in requests for deadline extensions in court. If reelected, what steps will you take or continue to build upon to ensure effective operations across your entire office?
Mr. DeVore: You routinely talk about government waste, spending and mismanagement. If elected, how would you support and manage the Office’s staff and resources in an effective manner? What goals would you set out to achieve related to the office’s infrastructure and staffing levels?
Some Illinoisans who had Pandemic false/fraudulent unemployment claims made in their name (and reported it to you on your website) say they have still never received even an acknowledgement or resolution from your office. Can you tell us if you are still investigating these crimes and what progress has been made in restitution?
- AcademicUnionStateEmployee - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:20 pm:
Now that the 5 Supreme Court districts have been redrawn for the first time in 60 years, would you also be in favor of going one step further and redistricting all 24 circuit courts?
Did 77 Ill. Admin. Code 690.30 grant schools the unilateral authority, absent a public health order, to exclude children from school due to contacts related to communicable and infectious diseases, including COVID-19?
To both candidates: With Illinois long history of political corruption at all levels and branches of government, and the Feds almost always being the ones to identify and prosecute, why should we believe you will do any better at dealing with corruption?
==why should we believe you will do any better at dealing with corruption==
Well, since that’s not the job of the Attorney General I would say that’s an easy answer.
Based on some of the suggestions on this thread I would say some of you don’t know the role of the Attorney General.
