Tuesday, Nov 8, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Happy “What Have You Heard?” Day! Here’s a post where you can talk about the campaign behind us and what could be in front of us, make some predictions, vent, or whatever. But be nice to each other, please. We’ll be back at 7 with more.

  1. - Mr. Middle Ground - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:26 pm:

Republicans exceed expectations but fall short of the statewide races. Republicans won in the 17th and 13th congressional districts.

  2. - Southwest Sider - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:29 pm:

I was annoyed by a campaign volunteer by the front door of my polling place. They should not be allowed on the polling place premise.

  3. - Soccermom - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:31 pm:

I want to tell a story from an election night back in 2006. I had been working on Forrest Claypool’s primary bid for Cook County President. It was fairly early in the evening, and I was hanging around the election night party. A reporter (!) came up to me and said, “I just wanted you to know, I took a Republican ballot to help Judy Baar Topinka, but I wrote in Forrest’s name for Cook County President.

I smiled politely, but inside I was thinking, “That’s great! Now we can come in second in both primaries!”

  4. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:31 pm:

    Thinking…

    Amendment 1 goes down

Foster is the likely congressional loss if there’s one, Nikki is a close second to a loss for Dems

If the GOP wins any of the ILSC seats, it’ll be Burke the more likely of the two.

Yeah, here’s the sitch, for me, this cycle is the craziest/goofiest/oddest of all cycles, speculation upon anything seems like a fool’s errand, but that’s all I got, the rest is even greater speculation based on… pocket lint or pixie dust.

  5. - Jump - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:31 pm:

Exiting polling not good for biden…could be long night

  6. - Big Dipper - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:36 pm:

    ==I was annoyed by a campaign volunteer==

I would tell them you just lost a vote for your candidate.

  7. - Eloy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:40 pm:

    Source, @Jump?

  8. - Nagidam - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:46 pm:

-Pritzker and Dem Statewide’s win. (+8%)
    -Amendment fails
    -Duckworth wins
    -Foster, Casten go down
-SGOP pick up Hamilton, Reboletti, Harris
-HGOP pick up five seats & Loose one (Wheeler)

We were asked for a prediction. Am I right?

We will know in two weeks or so.

  9. - jimbo - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:50 pm:

~~Foster is the likely congressional loss if there’s one~~

If Catalina wins, do we all get a free litter box? Or is it the opposite and they come confiscate my cats’ litter box?

  10. - Torco Sign - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:54 pm:

Supreme Court flips and people flip out (rightfully so from my perspective)

  11. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:54 pm:

    ===do we all===

If there is a Congrsswoman-Elect Lauf, I’d call the campaign office?

  12. - Justin - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 6:58 pm:

    Predictions:
    - Workers’ Rights Amendment passes.
    - All Dem statewides win.
    - Duckworth wins.
    - All competitive Congressional Dems win (Budzinski, Sorensen, Foster, Casten, and Underwood), with Sorensen the narrowest.
    - Debbie Ming-Mendoza (D) keeps her Madison County Clerk job.
    - Stuart (D) keeps her State House seat.
    - Tharp (D) narrowly keeps his State Senate seat.
    - In the 1st Subcircuit of the 3rd Circuit, Jumper (D) and Julian (D) win and Huddleston (D) loses.
    - Rochford and O’Brien win to expand the Dem majority on ILSC to 5-2.

  13. - Lurker - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:02 pm:

If we did not fall-back last weekend, Pritzker would already be declared the winner.

  14. - Been There - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:06 pm:

It gets cold quick when the sun goes down.

====They should not be allowed on the polling place premise.====
There is a first amendment and pretty sure this issue has been in courts over the years

  15. - jimbo - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:08 pm:

I predict that JB will will by as much as he did over Rauner.

Furthermore I predict that the ILGOP will put forth a similar candidate in 2026 and wonder what has happened yet again.

  16. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:16 pm:

    Pritzker wins.
    Raoul wins.
    Duckworth wins.
GOP regains majority in both houses of Congress.

  17. - Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:20 pm:

Dem statewide ticket wins, but not by a lot. Workers’ Rights Amendment passes by more than one would think given the other results.

  18. - Just a citizen - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:29 pm:

Very, very busy polling places in Geneseo

  19. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:33 pm:

    My uneducated guesses:
    Amendment fails.
    Rochford wins.
    O’Brien wins (barely), giving D’s 5-2 majority
    Nikki wins (barely).
    Dems sweep statewides.

  20. - Streator Curmudgeon - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:33 pm:

Bailey loses, and is unable to understand why.

  21. - Proud Papa Bear - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:37 pm:

    @Mr. Middle
I hear ya. I’ve been blocking politics out as much as possible with the exception of this blog. My son’s school won last night so…yay college basketball.

  22. - Henry Francis - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:38 pm:

    Does Bailey concede tonight?

If he does, is he a gentleman about it, or is he still trolling and sowing seeds of distrust?

  23. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:41 pm:

    First my rant…

It is simply impossible for me to understand how so many people can believe so many obvious lies. Especially “conservative” people, generally good people, who would normally value character and honesty.

I am also tired of the non-stop campaign/election cycle.

    Predictions…sort of…

    Dan Brady in an upset.

All other Dem statewides win easily.

bailey and devore host a nonstop pity party and claim the election was stolen.

  24. - Angry Jolietan - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:47 pm:

Rachel Ventura wins and at some point embarrasses the Senate Democrats

  25. - Mr. Middle Ground - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:54 pm:

    === I am also tired of the non-stop campaign/election cycle.===

I second this! My entire focus shifts to college basketball tomorrow.
