Polls are closed.
Beetle - “We was robbed” in 3 … 2 … 1 …
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:05 pm:
Pritzker is declared winner already. Shocking. Now to see the other state results.
- Proud Papa Bear - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:05 pm:
And the AP calls it for JB at 7:01.
- Hot Taeks - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:06 pm:
Time to concede Mr. Bailey. Good luck in your 2024 primary against Mr. Bost. Now back to playing the new Sonic game for me.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:12 pm:
Looks like Bailey will have to ride his dinosaur into the sunset back to the 19th Century.
- Moved East - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:14 pm:
I know its early, but looking good for Dems nationwide.
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:18 pm:
It was clear to any thinking person that Bailey was not a candidate for the entire state. That was never more obvious than when he and his wife checked in to an apartment on the Mag Mile and called it the “inner city”. There has never been a more out of step candidate running on behalf of a “major” party. Sadly, this election will seal the status of the ilgop for decades as irrelevant.
- Anon324 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:21 pm:
The Proft grift continues to work wonders. I can’t believe Darren’s presence in the inner city at 875 N Michigan didn’t work out.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:22 pm:
Congratulations to Dan Proft.
Proft got his money “up front”, the results for him… Green
- AlfondoGonz - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:24 pm:
Perhaps the ILGOP should consider fielding serious candidates.
- Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:31 pm:
“Perhaps the GOP should consider running serious candidates.”
They would be labeled RINOS south of I80.
- Cubs in '16 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:40 pm:
===They would be labeled RINOS south of I80.===
Perhaps but they couldn’t do any worse than the candidates the ILGOP has recently been fielding. The current game plan clearly isn’t working.
- Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:41 pm:
Ride… Ride ‘em, JB… ride ‘em all around the old corral. I’m… I’m with you, boy, if I have to ride 6 million miles.
- Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:44 pm:
I’m just stunned. I was told by high school football coaches and football player’s parents there would be stampedes to vote against JB. JB would be punished and beaten for his canceling HS football in 2020. I guess the coaches and players don’t know anymore about elections than they do public health policy.
- btowntruth from forgottonia - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:49 pm:
Give Me A Break:
It’s one thing for them to complain about it.
It’s another for them to actually go vote.

“Sources (the bartender) tell me a Sam Adms costs $7, a class of wine runs $7.50 and a Jack & Coke costs $8.50 at Darren Bailey’s watch party.”

Give Me a Break
It’s almost as if the most vocal among us don’t speak for the majority, right?
- Jibba - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:53 pm:
Some commenters here in weeks past said that a tidal wave of outrage would sweep JB from office. I guess that outrage was just them.
Who’d a thunk it? The rest of us.

So calling Chicago a “hellhole” doesn’t get votes in Chicago?
- Angry Chicagoan - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:58 pm:
That Chicago turnout is risible. Where are people? Seriously, I could see the mayoral turnout doing better.
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 7:59 pm:
@Jibba- and those same fortune tellers are oddly silent this evening.
Happiest guy in America tonight? My nominee is Dan “king of the grift” Proft.

Congress
ILSC
- Angry Chicagoan - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:02 pm:
@Cubs in 16 — maybe they need to split into regional parties like in Germany. The Main Street Republican Party for north of I-80 (German CDU branding will never work even north of I-80). The Christian Social Union Republican Party or maybe Alternative for Illinois for south of I-80.
- btowntruth from forgottonia - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:03 pm:
Note to future GOP Governatoral candidates:
Caling Chicago names will not get you votes in Chicago.

===Germany===
Either be 100% unintended snark or 100% intended “Germany” shade to the ILGOP.

How “Blue” will DuPage be after the ballots are counted?
- Colin O’Scopy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:07 pm:
What is going on with the Cook County Clerk election results platform? Is anyone able to get numbers from that site?

What’s next for Darren Bailey?
- TheInvisibleMan - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:09 pm:
“Bailey campaign manager says AP’s call is too early and they’re going to wait out results.”
Friends, election day is today and we still need your donation to put us over the top.
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:11 pm:
They had Gov. Edgar on TV talking about the current state of the ILGOP, and it being the party of Trump. Very respectable person who could probably get a lot of support these days.
- Dave Clarkin - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:17 pm:
Justice Rochford slightly ahead of JB in Lake County, that is a great sign for her.
Mary K O’Brien slightly behind JB in DuPage early voting, but the Dem lead there is huge, so not a bad sogn for her.
Checking on Will County…
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:20 pm:
=What’s next for Darren Bailey?=
More government subsidy money and more riding in an air conditioned tractor.
Oh, and more of the same grievances.

One Mountain Dew too many and a good cry?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:21 pm:
===Edgar on TV talking about the current state of the ILGOP===
Trump, indeed.
And Rauner. And Bailey. And DeVore
It’s gone to where I was a reliable GOP voter, “Edgar-Bedrock” voter.
I don’t identify with the ILGOP. Nope.
How do they expect to attract voters while losing the voters that were their base… and also alienating them as a strategy.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:28 pm:
Lots of national talking points coming from JB.
- Candy Dogood - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:30 pm:
Governor Pritzker’s victory speech sure seems to be hitting on a lot of national themes. Hopefully DCFS, DHS, and DOC won’t be his political albatross. He has a bit of time to fix those issues before they become the only thing primary opponents talk about.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:39 pm:
As Proft tweets about Florida and ignoring IL, keep in mind;
It’s about the money. You milk the mark dry, you move on… to Florida… but keep the megaphone, and use that boatload of grift to wait out the next chance to milk a mark.
After tonight, if you didn’t realize it already… Proft wins for Proft.
Proft won tonight.

Anyone know why the Tribe results page isn’t including DuPage results for the 6th district race? It’s pretty easy to tell when Casten has more votes in DuPage alone than it shows on the Trib’s page… (As of 8:54pm, in case this gets delayed)
- Southern Dude - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 8:57 pm:
====Hopefully DCFS, DHS, and DOC won’t be his political albatross. He has a bit of time to fix those issues before they become the only thing primary opponents talk about.====
He has had 4 years already. He caught a break this election due to the Republicans in this state being an absolute train wreck.

The AP is way behind on everything. If it was a government lagging like this, they’d be up in arms /s

Impressive victory by Michael Hastings. Overcoming scandal to win decisively shows he has staying power afterall.

Hastings battle is yet to come. It wasn’t about the election, Ray.
- In 630 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 9:21 pm:
I’d estimate DuPage has another 75-85k votes out if 2018 is a guide and Greg Hart has a 10k hole
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 9:22 pm:

I don’t know what numbers you’re looking at, but my count (not slow AP) has Hastings ahead by about 1500 votes with counting left to go.

ILSC…
Is that now 5-2?
O’Brien up 11K?
- Amalia - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:02 pm:
I’m watching nothing and taking it in here. Did not want to hear one more syllable from Bailey and his anti women’s agency and anti vax beliefs. thanking god that I do not live in a state like Florida where the governor puts out a black and white ad with some god nonsense that is pure theocracy. thank you Illinois voters.
- Lake County / AP - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:05 pm:
Interesting that AP is not showing much from the Lake County races considering how readily available the data is on the county website. Where’s the disconnect?
- Anon324 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:09 pm:
==AP is not showing much from the Lake County races==
They aren’t showing anything from DuPage or Will, either. Rich has indicated it’s just that the AP is slow. At this point, though, I think he’s being kind.
- Anon324 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:10 pm:
And I say that just as they add all of those counts…
- H-W - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:13 pm:
You may want to look at Brown County. They voted to consider ways to severe ties with the State of Illinois (good luck trying).
- In 630 - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:16 pm:
At this point, if you aren’t an incumbent, you aren’t winning as an R in DuPage
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:16 pm:
Foster, Casten win/winning…
- Emanuel Collective - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:18 pm:
By my back-of-the-napkin math, it seems like MKO’s lead is greater than the number of ballots left outstanding. Can someone wake up the AP tabulator?

Walker wins. Way to go. Fun seeing your good commercials.
- Left of the lake - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:31 pm:
Check McConchie’s race. He’s only up by about 900 votes as of 10pm. Way to go Peterson running a strong race against the majority leader. Still more votes coming in.
- The Velvet Frog - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:33 pm:
The Amendment was looking pretty good earlier but currently at 59 and dropping. Is there still a chance, or is the suntimes page just not keeping up with the results?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:33 pm:
Casten with a powerful speech.
My goodness.

Bad news in Madison County: The well-qualified incumbent Debbie Ming-Mendoza (D) got tossed out of office, as election denier Linda Andreas (R) won.

Is Mazzochi on the ropes?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:40 pm:
If things play out….
All 8… eight statewides… Democrats.
14-3 congressional advantage… Democrats hold majority in the delegation
5-2 Illinois Supreme Court… Democrats hold majority on the bench
If it all holds…
It’s not a Blue state, it is the best candidates, the better messages, the understanding of what Illinois voters are seeking… and what Illinois voters are rejecting.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 10:41 pm:
I add my congratulations to - walker - as well
And a heck of a commenter here too.
Keep doing the people’s work. Congrats.

It looks like the cities of Kankakee, Carbondale, and Freeport will be retaining home rule according to each of the county election results pages (or The Southern Illinoisan for Carbondale). I’m not sure if any other cities had this on the ballot other than Barrington where it looks to have failed.
- Eric H - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 11:16 pm:
Looking at county clerk reports from Sangamon, Christian, and Macon counties, it seems Doris Turner wins the Illinois 48th Senate District with 50.8% of the votes. Sun-Times and Tribune have not called that race yet (as of 11:00p.m.), but 100% of precincts in those three counties have reported.
- granville - Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 11:24 pm:
I’m on the Suntimes and Tribune pages and both seem to have the results flipped between Casten and Pekau, even after the latter conceded. I assume this is coming from an official source.
Screenshot of it on WGN: https://i.imgur.com/mAsUDRY.png
I’m even more glad that Pekau conceded because this just looks awful.

==It’s sad that so many people want child abuse and communism. ==
And, who would have suspected that would be the Republicans? (The complaints about Joe Biden not price fixing gasoline, etc. indicate the Republicans want the federal gov’t to take over a few industries - how else can private companies be forced to lower prices? And, forcing children to have babies seems like child abuse to me.)

==It’s sad that so many people want child abuse and communism.==
To be fair, Mary Miller’s district was drawn that way on purpose. It’s unfortunate so many are willing to look the other way on who she and her husband surround themselves with, but sometimes party politics just rules the day. And I realize a lot of folks use the term as a synonym for autocracy, but while she’s clearly in favor of a Trump-led despotism, she’s not really a communist. Nevertheless, the crux of your argument that her re-election is disappointing holds up.
