Meanwhile, House Democratic members are apparently still in caucus and the House vs. Senate softball game is about to start. I’m blogging from Isabel’s car, but I’m also supposed to announce the game. Gonna get weird soon.

To be honest, speaking for myself, this week is a wreck already, a gut punch

- Original Rambler - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:08 pm:
Didn’t see that coming after 5 days of deliberations.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:08 pm:
Stunningly swift

Oh my…you can fool some of the people some of the time, but c’mon, this was pretty blatant doncha think?
- Shy Don Freud - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:14 pm:
Madigan certainly has some interesting decisions to make now.
- Chitown - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:16 pm:
Madigan gonna play the I am old and cant remember anything card.
- Sue - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:18 pm:
How can anyone after listening to the tape recordings have possibly believed any other outcome. And in terms of the deliberations- 4 plus days is evidence that the Jury actually did its job of assessing the evidence. I doubt any of the 4 defendants will take any solace awaiting on a S Ct decision as they are awaiting that outcome from their federal prisons. Madigan now has to defend himself while sitting next to an already convicted co- defendant. You can anticipate his motion to sever which will be denied

Enjoy the game
the wind should be blowing
- Early voter - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:29 pm:
Appealing is pointless with the current make up of the (white)supreme(cest) court. President Biden needs to issue a full pardon asap.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:32 pm:
@ Early Voter, there will be no pardon for the Fab 4 by the prez.
- Blue Bayou - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 5:33 pm:
Was hoping the jury would also throw the book at Blago, even though he wasn’t on trial.

lol, “Sure”
This is as ridiculous as anyone “thanking” Rauner for the trial.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 6:06 pm:
Has anyone ever FOIA’d for Bruce Rauner’s texts with Jay Doherty?
- Lurker - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 6:07 pm:
As a serious comment from someone that does not understand law, doesn’t this pretty much 100% guarantee Madigan is going to jail?

- DuPage Saint - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 6:51 pm:
5 Days? heck you would think someone would have gotten a not guilty on at least one thing.
Power of the government is scary. Over charge plea or go down
- Cle dcn - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 6:56 pm:
I must be incredibly naive I figure no way would the convict. I still think Madigan will not be either. I am probably the only one who thinks this.
- Mary - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 6:58 pm:
Everyone who is citing McDonnell v. United States needs to go back and read the actual charges in the indictment. I explained them here.
https://capitolfax.com/2023/03/16/a-look-at-the-comed-4-prosecutors-opening-remarks/. The evidence presented in the courtroom matched this up, and some of the things that came up live at trial were actually even worse. This is not a surprising verdict if you were looking at the case as the feds were actually trying it, versus how everyone was trying to spin what it meant.
- Anyone Remember - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 7:21 pm:
Mary -
When I moved to Springfield decades ago (Gov. Thompson had naming authorities over US Attorneys) was told the Illinois Governor who went to prison was convicted of a crime that no longer existed. (Otto Kerner) Since then SCOTUS has chipped away at such cases. Without Dobbs, SCOTUS will continue the trend upon McDonnell and overturn these convictions.

Fidel Marquez probably gets to walk with his guilty plea. Proving once again that the first one on the bus gets the best seat.
Wow.

- Big Dipper - Tuesday, May 2, 23 @ 9:34 pm:
Given the feds’ track record with public corruption cases, it’s probably a good thing Anne Burke and Lisa Madigan are no longer public officials. That would be awkward.

It’s now 7:30 a.m. and unless they’ve hidden it well, there isn’t a single word about this on the state capital’s “newspaper” website. I’d say unbelievable, except sadly it is not.
