The garden is picking up steam. We’ve got yellow squash coming out of our ears and we just had a great harvest of tomatoes. Last year, we had one or two jalapeños but they were about two inches long. Now, we have about a dozen at about three inches and they’re still growing.

My Dad’s complaint back in the day was going months with no tomatoes and then all of them coming in at once. He preferred the huge beefsteak variety because they were hamburger sized.
I have a lot of green tomatoes, and several are starting to turn. I mostly grow tomatoes to can them, so hopefully I should get quite a few quarts this summer.
Just learned that the Illinois ban on “silencers” is being challenged in the Federal Courts. Given Chicago’s reliance on Shot Spotter technology, this could be a huge problem if the ban is struck. Two suits were filed a few months ago.
Gravitas,
I don’t know how much Chicago relies on spotshotter. It’s helpful for quickly getting to a scene and being able to get emergency vehicles rolling quickly to help victims survive. In most case, the police get their after the shooter has left.
It’s used for graphics for crime maps etc but the maps produced really don’t show much that is surprising or useful. Generally the police know the trouble spots already.
Also I don’t think the law is what is keeping drive by shooters from having silencers. They are either expensive or make the gun bulkier and more awkward to handle. Drive by shooters by definition really don’t fear anyone hearing the shots.

Jealous. I planted mine late. They look great, but still very green.

Rich, you should make fried green tomatoes. Yum.

Can’t wait to hear how you can’t defend your home from intruders if your gun makes noise.

My neighbor put ripe tomatoes on my porch yesterday…I put ‘em in my mouth this morning… so yummy in my tummy.
What a gift to have good neighbors…I show my gratitude with a happy sack…in return.
