During a local village board meeting last night, one of the trustees went full on conspiracy mode on the SAFE-T act during trustee comments. Note, there was nothing on the agenda even remotely related to this, she just went full on into this out of the blue.
She started telling people that “starting today” you need to be more careful than ever of your surroundings. Always be looking over your shoulder. Everyone is now less safe. That the media was purposely not covering it started today, and people thought it ‘just went away’ because it isn’t in the news all day every day. And that many people were automatically released from the Will County jail today because of it. Double-check your doors, double check your garage doors. And call 911 immediately if there’s anything suspicious.
She’s an attorney, who is married to a judge.
This is the environment Jim Glasgow has created in Will County, among public officials.
It starts at the 44:00 mark in this video, if anyone thinks I’m exaggerating.
Sorry, I commented before I listened further, the next speaker is even dumber or more dishonest. According to him, the police can only write people a ticket now, cannot arrest.
===According to him, the police can only write people a ticket now, cannot arrest.===
Technically true for certain offenses. But, clearly half the story. We will continue to have these stories about the world ending. Let’s let the system play itself out. I’m sure there will be hiccups. The Daily Herald had a pretty good piece today discussing actual cases and how those cases were handled.
Without commenting on the specific speakers, I can assure you that as an attorney, graduating law school and passing the bar is not any guarantee of intelligence, competence, or character. Even top law schools produce their fair share of malicious actors and useful idiots.
We are all at the point of the film where the SAs and Sheriffs that pivot correctly by embracing that they will work tirelessly to do their job and keep people safe, and don’t explain how grossly inept they are and are useless in keeping people safe… will find political success.
I never understood how it’s politically smart to say doing your job inherently makes one inept. It’s a total loser… except to cultists.
That has always been the case. I know someone (not me of course) that was busted for open alcohol and alleged under age drinking in college and all I got was a ticket.
Certainly, for very low-level offences this has always been the case. SAFE-T act expanded this to other offences where the person would have been brought to jail and booked. Now they will be given a citation to appear if they are non-violent. I think this can help the system. Devil is in the details like everything else.

Rep. Mike Coffey hosted a pizza party at his restaurant last night for area kids that completed a summer reading challenge. It was a fun time.

I got to it very late but I’d like to add to the heap of praise Mrs. Pritzker received and the earned praise of the makers of the Mansion Tour video.
It’s really wonderful.

“there’s a lot of people that aren’t in the legal field that don’t know”
And apparently some that are in the legal field (?) that don’t know.
Cuckoo
Plus, assuming @TheInvisibleMan, this woman attended law school? Her command of the english language is atrocious.

“the next speaker is even dumber”
He’s a New Lenox Police officer too, and he’s working his way through law school to become a judge.

The adults will pivot correctly.

Plainfield trustee Patty Kalkanis (in Invisible Man’s clip) is a private criminal defense attorney.
You know, the real victims of the SAFE-T Act.
