Bost announces Jordan endorsement

Thursday, Nov 9, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Shot…

* Chaser…

U.S. Rep. Mike Bost today announced that his 2024 re-election campaign has been endorsed by leading House conservative, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

“Mike Bost is a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative who supports our veterans and will fight for a strong border,” said Jordan. “Now more than ever, we need patriots like him in Congress advocating for our values.”

“Jim Jordan is a principled leader in Congress and a pillar of the conservative movement; I am honored to have his endorsement,” said Bost. “I look forward to standing with Jim as we continue the fight for our shared values against the radical Left.”

I’m excited to see Bailey’s response to this.

I wonder if he will call Jordan an “extreme leftist” now?

  2. - Siualum - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 9:27 am:

Wackos seeking the endorsements of other wackos. Almost entertaining.

  3. - H-W - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 9:32 am:

=== Now more than ever, we need patriots like him ===

See, this is the sort of language I find offensive. “Patriots” is batted around like it is some sort of measurable, quantifiable qualification that only Republicans can measure.

I am a veteran. Does that make me a patriot? I educate the future generation of young adults for service in their future communities. Does that make me a patriot? I have paid my taxes always, and never sought means to avoid supporting the governments through taxation policies. Does that make me a patriot? I have stood up for and marched with oppressed minorities helping seek justice and equality for all. Does that make me a patriot?

I am an Eagle Scout and attended Boys’ State of Virginia. And more and more.

There are so many reasons why the co-optation of the word patriot by Republicans ought to be offensive to everyone’s sensibilities. Republicans have made the word patriot ugly and political.

What a world where getting an endorsement from this clown is seen as a positive.

    ===”Mike Bost is a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative…”===

Do Republicans have anything to offer besides forced birth and mass shootings?

=== Do Republicans have anything to offer besides forced birth and mass shootings? ===

Of course they do! They also offer lower taxes for all*!

    *Only the rich qualify

  7. - Huh? - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:09 am:

    Um. No.

Gym jordan is a failed hack who couldn’t cobble together enough votes from his own party to get elected speaker of the house. And bost thinks that endorsement will induce anyone to vote for him?

    Guess again.

  8. - John Lopez - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:21 am:

Would anyone expect anything different from House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan endorsing House Veterans Affairs Chairman Mike Bost in his reelection bid?

We’re talking what was once called the U.S. House’s “college of cardinals” in the old days.

Wait until House Education and the Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx backs Bost, given Bailey is all-in with parents rights activists.

  9. - Pundent - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:25 am:

=And bost thinks that endorsement will induce anyone to vote for him?=

According to the candidates these types of endorsements may be all that matters to voters in the 12th. But that’s what happens when the state and national party allow these races to devolve into something resembling the hype of a WWE match.

  10. - Moe Berg - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:28 am:

Congrats to Bost for wrestling Jordan’s endorsement away from Bailey.

  11. - Rudy’s teeth - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:42 am:

Although Darren Bailey is a staunch conservative Republican, I can’t help but notice his resemblance to a braying donkey.

Might be time to reach for some hay.

  12. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:42 am:

===state and national party allow these races===

    Oh, please.

The voters themselves have driven the GOP to the right. Stop blaming others.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:43 am:

Jordan is a bigger get to the cult, which is why it’s perfect for this primary, but let’s be clear, even the cult knows Jordan is toxic, and not a leader of anyone but nihilism.

Will this mean Trump goes Bost?

    We’ll see

  14. - DuPage Saint - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 10:45 am:

H W you did not mention if you always have an American Flag pin in your lapel How can you be a patriot without that. And the larger the pin the bigger the patriot. I agree with you a 100 percent.

  15. - Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 11:05 am:

Did the voters draw the districts that favor the far right candidates in these Illinois downstate districts or did the Democrats?

  16. - Pundent - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 11:09 am:

    =Stop blaming others.=.

I wholeheartedly agree that this is what the voters, particularly in the 12th want. But in giving the voters of the 12th what they want the party is conceding any sense of relevancy in once competitive districts. Bailey is now the standard bearer of the ILGOP.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 11:11 am:

===Bailey is now the standard bearer of the ILGOP.===

Statewide GOP voters chose Bailey at a 56+% clip in a 6-way race.

Jim Edgar beat a far right (traditional far right) candidate, in a primary, one on one, by 40+ points.

    It’s the voters. That’s it

  18. - ??? - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 11:38 am:

DuPage Saint - I think if they have, in lieu of a lapel pin, a picture of an American flag, an eagle, or a pickup truck with an anti-Biden banner affixed to it on their social media accounts, they are still considered patriots.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 12:02 pm:

===Did the voters draw the districts that favor the far right candidates in these Illinois downstate districts or did the Democrats?===

    Bailey ran statewide.

    Keep up.

  20. - JS Mill - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 12:23 pm:

=Did the voters draw the districts that favor the far right candidates in these Illinois downstate districts or did the Democrats?+

That is as relevant to the conversation as a question about your preference for creamy peanut butter or chunky peanut butter (spoiler alert: the correct answer is creamy Jiff). So pretty spot on for you.

I have to be honest, I love the Bailey statement that he and president (former) trump are endorsing jordan. Made me laugh out loud. SO some farmer in Southern Illinois is making endorsements with trump. If narcissism could be turned into electricity, these two could light up China.

  21. - Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 12:35 pm:

    Keep up?

Bailey’s currently running for Congress in a gerrymandered district

    Illinois congressional map is rated

    F for partisan fairness
    F for competitiveness
    F for geography

    https://gerrymander.princeton.edu/redistricting-report-card?planId=receAu6OJuYEkxKjG

And yet we are lectured about threats to Democracy by Illinois Democrats

  22. - Norseman - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 12:51 pm:

Mike, congratulations on the endorsement from the wannabe Speaker in the Denny Hastert tradition. The young males and their mothers in your district will ponder your acceptance of support from someone who looks the other way on sexual assault.

  23. - Vote Quimby - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 1:00 pm:

DB going to shake things up in Washington like he did in Springfield? /s

  24. - Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 1:03 pm:

Creamy JIF is loaded with unhealthy hydrogenated vegetable oils that contribute to increased bad LDL cholesterol that can harm heart health JS.

That doesn’t change the fact that competitive districts would naturally favor more centrist candidates.

They would better represent the interests of the Illinois voters as well as solve the nation’s problems better instead of the status quo.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 1:05 pm:

    ===gerrymandered===

Which is not illegal, but Alabama, Ohio, and North Carolina had judges question their legality.

Same “garbage” with you, same pushback to your garbage, it’s victimhood with blinded partisanship, no honesty to the fact the GOP is radicalized, looking at the statewide nominees, the party you support with your votes are nothing like Edgar, Dillard, Topinka, and you’re fine with it.

    Win elections. Your candidates can’t.

  26. - James - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 1:25 pm:

Nothing more enjoyable than watching Darren Bailey step on rakes.

  27. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 1:32 pm:

===competitive districts would naturally favor more centrist candidates.===

Yes, they would, in a general election. This, however, is a Republican primary. If your theory was correct, the Republicans would’ve nominated a moderate for governor last year.

  28. - H-W - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 2:02 pm:

    @ LP

=== Creamy JIF is loaded with unhealthy hydrogenated vegetable oils that contribute to increased bad LDL cholesterol that can harm heart health ===

Okay, this is hard to say, but I agree with you again, LP. I just switched a few months ago to “Smucker’s Natural.” I actually prefer it to JIF now that I have tried it.

Is it too early to say “LP for the win?”

  29. - don the legend - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 2:03 pm:

    ==If your theory was correct,==

Rich, that can be said of any of LP’s posts.

  30. - Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Nov 9, 23 @ 2:12 pm:

At least I am humble Don

    Thanks H-W

No one is interested in Establishment Republicans like Bay-lee or Bhost.
