I love the ILGA. Somebody decides kids have and absolute right to recess and now we have kids that can’t or won’t behave (hitting others and generally refusing to keep his hands to himself). We cannot take the precious recess time away since the kid is not a safety hazard. And I get to spend two hours on the phone with enabling parents. I love my job so much.
Thanks NoMoreMc. It is confusing, right? Just heard the depth of the quake was 2.2 miles. the closer to the surface the more damaging. 3.4 is not huge but it is not small either. close to Starved Rock.
I like the fact that at my level of education, we get to just say “FERPA” and it means the complete opposite of what it means at your level of education.

You lucky duck.
ALso, if parents were not part of the equation (too often) it would be so much better. Kids are the easy part.
In our building (nearly 900 students), our 8th graders consisted of 275 students. We had independent study/in school suspension in a room where students spent the day with all their class work and a supervisor.
They ate lunch in the room, had two bathroom breaks, and had two breaks where they could walk in the hall for 10 minutes when all the other students were in class.
A few stints in ISS curbed most of the recalcitrant behavior.
My school administrators where my kid goes seems to have no problem making decisions for my kid without asking me. So I guess I have the opposite problem.
Looks like there are some faults in the area: Sandwich Fault Zone, La Salle Anticline, Peru Monocline. Possibly others. According to the Google, it’s not the first time there’s been some shaking in that area. Learn something new every day.
@Demoralized- We are always open to new students. Feel free to join us, we will treat your student like gold.

That’s because some of them think they are smarter than everyone else.
Just ask….especcially in my district….they’re happy to tell you why.

Illinois is always different. We get excited about earthquakes(bp)
Did anyone feel it this morning?

But the weather is spectacular.

No, not all the way up near the Chi. but it’s interesting. are there well known fault lines there? it was a shallow quake. interesting.
- Leslie K - Wednesday, Nov 15, 23 @ 8:59 am:
Just hearing about the quake(s). Didn’t feel it up in Chicago, but is everyone ok hopefully?

Didn’t feel anything in Springfield this morning.

Tuesday is normally the busiest day on Meta. Have to say my train home yesterday had all the feel of a pre-covid train. Full to overflowing…
- NoMoreMC - Wednesday, Nov 15, 23 @ 9:04 am:
Whoops, just saw it was in Putnam County, not near the New Madrid. Used to all the seismic activity being south of here.

I didn’t feel anything here in Chicago, but I wonder if that’s why one of my cats was acting a bit odd this morning.

@JoanP, no, if your cat is NOT acting weird, then suspect something.
A friend of mine just north of Peoria said it woke his wife up.
