I’ll be honest and say that personally, this was a rough year. Then I look to next year being an election and I’m not happy with the candidates. So, I’ll say what no one in my position should say but it’s true: I’m thankful we have a smart, sane, gentle governor who tries to lead by methods other than revenge and hate in his heart.

Family.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Being surrounded by family members makes the day extra special.
I’m just very thankful for all-around good health in my family. And an economic soft-landing from the COVID crisis looks very plausible by now, which I am also very thankful for.
My youngest has had a health issue that we had just accepted he was going to have to live with. After he graduated and decided to stay in Kansas, we had him find a doctor there. Within 30 minutes, that doctor decided to test him for something specific, and it turned out that was the issue, and there is a relatively new treatment for it. He has responded better than anyone they have seen before to the treatment. It isn’t a cure, but it has been life-changing.

As always, thankful for my family. I am beyond blessed with wonderful children and a loving husband. And, thankful for our health and well being.
I’m grateful for JB Pritzker, President Biden and the millions of good people who make our lives work. The following is my morning gratitude prayer.
For each new morning with its light
for rest and shelter in the night
for health and food
for love and friends
for Everything thy Goodness sends
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I am thankful for the love and support of wonderful family and friends. I try to respond in kind.
I am also thankful for good hair, and that I am still pretty. By that I mean, as I accumulate an assortment of ailments, they are not apparent, or terribly limiting.
I am most thankful for an entire career in the presence of 18-24 year old young adults who have always believed in the possibility of a better America. My students have kept me hopeful and humble for 35+ years.
I’m most thankful for good health for me and my family, for great kids and a fantastic wife, for a good job that I enjoy and for the many blessings I have in life. I try not to take any of that for granted.
I’m also thankful to Rich and Isabel for allowing me in this space and for tolerating my comments. Thankful too for my fellow commenters who sharpen my thinking on so many issues.
Really thankful today that Mick, Keith and Ronnie will be coming back to Chicago next year. It reminds me that I am to be alive at the same time as the Rolling Stones, the soundtrack of my life.

Health and well-being of family and friends, and also self. Grateful for modern diagnostic health screenings and other medical advancements, like the COVID vaccine.
My continued mending and improving health, the never ending help of family who have made it all possible and the continuous joyful flow of news from Capt.Fax.
Gotta echo the sentiments of some others and say I’m thankful for finding this website. Most of the internet makes me stupider so I’m glad I found one place that makes me smarter.

Family. My wife who has put up with me for 30 years. My children, my Granddaughter and our health.
I am thankful for many here who have shown a different perspective in many areas. And for Rich and Isabel who keep this place classy.
Thankful for the upbringing I was fortunate to have and for the way it prepared me for a world gone awry in so many ways. I miss the days where doing the right thing was where judgment began and ended… where you were looked down on for dishonesty and unchecked self interest. Likely dating myself… but so be it.
My family and I are thankful for all those in uniform, serving our country and communities across the globe — may they each soon feel the warmth and comfort we all will enjoy this coming week and through the season.
Going slightly off topic and just wanted to say thanks to you, Rich, and to Isabelle. I came across this site about a year and a half ago (I think after reading something you wrote in the Sun-Times) and I really appreciate the hard work you do to the point where sometimes the idea of a weekend isn’t as fun knowing there won’t be any updates on Capitol Fax. I also really appreciate the wisdom and humor of the regular community on here.
I am most thankful for my family and my friends. They have sustained my through all nature of good and bad. I just hope that I have on some way been the same for them.

So much to be thankful for:
Family: especially my spouse and our offspring who are becoming wonderful adults we enjoy spending time with.
Friends and colleagues: The folks I work with every day and the people in various organizations (political and professional) with whom I interact. So many people are trying to make our community, state, country, and planet a better place; it gives me hope.
===I’m thankful we have a smart, sane, gentle governor who tries to lead by methods other than revenge and hate in his heart.=== Very well put and I would extend that to all of our state-wides; we have some remarkable leadership in this state.
And, of course, Rich and Isabel for maintaining a site where can stay informed and learn from each other.
Grateful more than thankful, for family, friends, and in a very tough year and times I’m grateful to those that are there when you need them and least suspect them.
Am so grateful for my family, health, and connections to long-time friends.
We are fortunate in Illinois to have a governor and his team to steer our state in a positive direction. So enjoy commenting on Cap Fax regarding issues that involve so many of us in Illinois.
Although my moniker is Rudy’s teeth, I am grateful my teeth do not resemble a certain former mayor of New York.
Lots of things, including this hugely entertaining blog and the people on it. At the top of my personal list I would say still being here. I had some major surgery and barely survived. But I’m doing pretty well and went for a nice hike this morning. Going to celebrate Thanksgiving with some of my family at a Chinese restaurant where robots serve the food.
