Reinsdorf says ‘I don’t want to talk about that’ when asked why his ballclub needs another state subsidy
Tuesday, Feb 20, 2024 - Posted by Rich Miller * As White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf emerged from one of his meetings with legislative leaders today, Isabel tried to get him to justify his subsidy plan…
And then he walked away.

Just give me a half a billion. Why should I … talk … about it.
- @misterjayem - Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 5:45 pm:
“Oh, I don’t want to talk about that.”
Then why are you in Springfield?

Jim Thompson’s not walking through that door, Jerry.
Mike Madigan’s not walking through that door, Jerry.
Richie Daley’s not walking through that door, Jerry.
You’d better get talking or do your own walking.

A man whose teams have won World Series after World Series never asked for anything and yet remains so humble and unassuming. What a jerk I guess the good Village of Addison was right so many years ago
- Etown - Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 6:08 pm:
Typical arrogant Jerry
Sell the team!

For the first time in the history of the world, the White Sox are asking for a State subsidy.

=I don’t want to talk about that.=
I think you’ll find a lot of agreement on that.

According to the internet, the White Sox organization is worth over 2 billion dollars.
Let’s make a deal; Illinois will purchase half the ownership of the White Sox organization and the cost will be another 15% of ownership. Minority ownership will continue to operate the day to day operations of the organization, but the Governor shall have the power to remove or replace the head of the organization “in the interest of the public.”
Personally, I am tired of seeing my tax dollars flow freely and easily to billionaires. Instead, let’s start taking what every other investor would take - a cut.

The arrogance of some rich people never fails to amaze me; the fact of their wealth turns them into solipsistic D-bags because all day they are surrounded by paid staff and yes men. When they step out from that bubble they in turn seem amazed not everyone is running up to shine their shoes.

I don’t know Isabel or how intimidating she can be in person, but good job making a supposedly grown man with big time clout act like a frightened child.

EB, listen to the audio lol

Lol is right. Imagine his come apart if she’d had to raise her voice. Pathetic.

The days of backroom deals about things like this are gone. You better start singing and dancing for your supper, buddy.

It is so hard being a fan of this team. I could deal with a bad team if I liked the owner. I could deal with a cruddy owner if there was a modicum of success. They tore down the coliseum of baseball for a park that feels like the game is a mile away. We paid for it. Now I guess we are supposed to pay for it again…I must be a masochist to support this team. It’s the only logical conclusion.

If he’s running away from that, what a coddled crybaby … .
- low level - Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 11:23 pm:
Jerry doesn’t want to talk about it because he knows it isn’t justified. He also knows the forecasts as to how many jobs and revenue this would create were ridiculous.
- Dirty Red - Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 11:42 pm:
Whoops.

If that’s the shot, his quote in Jeremy’s story is the chaser: “At an appropriate time, everybody will speak up. Now is not the appropriate time,” he said. “We’re not going to give out any internal bulletins.”

So Instead of investing in his team, he comes to the tax payers to build a new stadium to increase attendance. Sounds more like neoliberalism than the free market to me.
- Benjamin - Wednesday, Feb 21, 24 @ 9:28 am:
It was one thing when Reinsdorf repeatedly mismangaed the Sox into last place, and when he asked elected leaders for a whopping handout for a stadium we don’t need. But blowing off Isabel? Now he’s gone too far.
- Shytown - Wednesday, Feb 21, 24 @ 10:58 am:
Wow. I know he’s a dinosaur in this business and a bit rusty being in front of the media, but he needs some serious training for taking questions or his folks need to get him out the back door next time. What a bad look.

I mean, East St Louis would probably take’em, minus the billion, of course.
