Many in McDonough County are struggling with the newly announced loss of 130 family income jobs in a county that only has 30,000 residents when the students are here. Macomb and the surrounding communities are going to have to absorb a loss of $20 M in its annual payrolls, and probably 100 or more houses newly entering the market. While 36 were laid off instantly on June 29th, the additional layoffs will come forward in December 2024 and May 2025.
$20 M is a lot of lost consumer dollars for a town of 15,000 residents to absorb. This is going to affect tax revenues and property taxes, and all that comes from those sources of tax revenues.
But mostly, we are currently at the point of significant emotional shock.
Central Management Services has my private email to send me information about my healthcare choices each May. I do not appreciate getting one or two emails a day about events at the State Fairgrounds. Got one last night at 10:30 pm. Annoying.

Bears might finally be promising. If the rebuild works it will be electric.
