    I heard Lieutenant Governor Stratton on several satellite radio stations last week talking up the DNC Convention. She did a great job. She also pointed out that if Harris/Walz win, the Governorship of Minnesota will go to its Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, making her the first Native American Governor in the history of these United States.

    I came into work downtown today and the Kennedy Expressway express lanes, which have been closed for repairs this summer, have magically been re-opened. But you can only use them if you’re a politician coming in from O’Hare and there is heavy Illinois State Police presence at the various express lane gates.

    Hoping the convention is more ‘96 and less ‘68.

    = Peggy Flanagan, making her the first Native American Governor in the history of these United States. =

    Stratton’s wrong about that. Oklahoma’s current governor, Kevin Stitt, is a member of the Cherokee tribe, and he’s the second Native American governor in Oklahoma history. The first was Johnston Murray, whose mother was Chickasaw.

    Judging by the suburban Metra parking lots, most everyone who usually works in the city is on vacation or working at home this week.

    Smashing Pumpkins were a fun watch Friday. I’m trying to find what the attendance was but all my searches go to the record breaking Lil Wayne concert, which I am told was really awesome.

    @MrJM
    I’ve heard from some that their employers told them to work remote this week if they could. With the point being driven home when windows were being boarded up as early as last Wednesday.

    Reminds me of the first Vice President who was an enrolled member of a Native American tribe, Hoover’s VP, Charles Curtis, of the Kaw Nation in Kansas. His first languages were Kansa and French, and he was also Senate Majority Leader in the 1920’s.

    Wishing all the convention goers’ good weather this week and hope they find time to get out and experience all the local food and entertainment the city has to offer.

  10. - Dupage - Monday, Aug 19, 24 @ 10:42 am:

    If outside agitators are arrested, and they are not Illinois residents, they would be a flight risk and should be held under the “no cash bail” law.

  11. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Aug 19, 24 @ 10:44 am:

    RIP to the great Phil Donahue.

    Closed out my summer with a stunner of a concert at the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus on Saturday. With family, including children at the park Stunning concert. As we walked out of the beautiful venue at Millennium Park with the city lights around us, it was magnificent. A free concert in the best venue ever! Brought to you by the city of Chicago.

    Elementary students in a small central Illinois town near us will now have the opportunity to participate in weekly bible classes during school hours. Promoted by Lifewise.org. I’m all for parents having the freedom to raise their kids in any religion they want, but I didn’t know it was legal to allow them to do that during school hours. There isn’t enough time in the week to teach shop classes, etc. anymore, yet alone this.
