Getting passes (at the McCormick Hyatt) required walking more than 1/2 mile due to the security imposed in the area. Concrete barriers fronted by 8 foot fencing across major intersections required traversing back 1/4 of a block to move down south Michigan Ave.
Drove through downtown after picking up our badges and encountered minimal traffic and zero protestors.
Security at the United Center only required a 1/3 mile walk by comparison. Police outnumbered protestors by 50 to 1. Never felt safer.
From McCormick to downtown to United we saw only two groups of protestors of a dozen people or so.

Was at the Colbert live show last night at the Auditorium Theater and they showed the DNC on video screens before the show went live a little after 11pm. A great evening all around.
Security is a bit more noticeable at Union Station this morning. But still mostly law enforcement officers in groups of 3~4 chatting, no obvious long guns or anything.
Various buildings seem to have more security outside but nothing you would notice if you don’t walk by three days a week.
I work right near the area of the ‘Clash. ‘ My building is next to the train station, and there were no signs of damage.

The Dolton/Thornton Township mess continues to grow a YouTube presence. Coverage of Henyard’s “Taste of Thornton Township” pans her badly, while board meetings for both govt’s are getting interesting as her allies and appointees get indicted or fired.

What’s with all the downstate KFC locations abruptly closing?
Bloomington’s last one shut down abruptly and seeing a bunch also just suddenly closed around Rockford, Peoria, Champaign, and Springfield.
Hope the workers are OK and there are no WARN act violations.
I’ll make do without their chicken but KFC has the only cole slaw I ever liked.

I dunno, but Popeye’s, Chick-Fil-A and now Raising Cane’s seem to be cutting into a market share that was once their own.

I never understood why places give out slaw like it costs more than lobster.
