A walk down memory lane
Thursday, Oct 3, 2024 - Posted by Rich Miller * I practically begged the Sangamo Club for years to sell this 14-foot-wide painting. Not to me, of course. I hated looking at it. Just donate it to a museum or something if we had to. Yeesh… ![]() To each their own, though. Maybe you’d like to own a gigantic painting of drunken pilgrims. And if so, you can bid on it because the club’s contents are being sold via bankruptcy auction. Click here.

More of a Terry Redlin, Bob Ross kind of guy.
Pretty swanky digs for Pilgrims, though.

I don’t know about art, but I know what I like.
And I don’t like that.

Bidding does not close until 10/29. I don’t want to get into a bidding war with the MAGA crowd too early on.

=== I don’t want to get into a bidding war with the MAGA crowd===
Huh?

Isabel, I’m not saying that would be a great gift to get your uncle, but I suspect he has a garage wall that it would look swell on…
Thanks for that rabbit hole, Rich, I’m kind of digging how it’s: painting, refrigerator, painting, chair…

Has anyone looked at what is being offered? There are 6 pages with 100 lots. Roughly the last page and a half is mostly alll bottles of booze.
- DEE - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 1:11 pm:
===Huh?===
Those who believe that we need to go back to the men were masters and women were not ‘childless cat ladies’ great times will surely go higher than the opening $1 bid and over my reserve set at $5. /s

I like this one, one pilgrim goes one way the other pilgrum goes the other way.. and the grandma’s over there sayin: ‘whaddya want from me?
- James - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 1:14 pm:
What ya got against drunk pilgrims? I’d guess drunk pilgrims would have been better to hang with than sober pilgrims.
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 1:15 pm:
So much wrong with that painting.
For starters, Puritans did not smoke.
Or get drunk, as Rich points out.
The grandfather clock not only was to ostentatious for a Puritan home, it was not invented until 1670.
Shaker chairs and doors?
My grandma’s easy chair?
The frame is probably worth some money though.

Dibs on that Naguchi coffee table. And maybe one of the monogrammed dishes. That’s about it for me.
- ArchPundit - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 2:07 pm:
OneMan beat me to it
- ChicagoBars - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 2:15 pm:
There’s some nice kitchen equipment being offered but hard to tell how old it is.
- H-W - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 2:19 pm:
Of note, the bottles of Scotch Whisky are actually bidding upward already.

Dibs on the shoe polisher in the lobby
- Lurker - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 2:58 pm:
Now I’m torn. Should I call my new band Drunk Pilgrims or Drunk Puritans? 🤔
- Dotnonymous x - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 3:12 pm:
Audio Caption?…OH! EEE! OHHH!…feel the constant boring drudgery?
- OneMan - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 3:17 pm:
The trick on the pilgrim painting would be to get an artist to add various political figures over the last 20 years into it and then give it to Rich…
- Just a Random Guy - Thursday, Oct 3, 24 @ 9:42 pm:
@DEE, is “MAGA crowd” in the room with us right now?
