I used to think the Hail Mary was the turning point of the Bears’ season. Now I realize it was their listless follow up against the Cardinals. A solid effort in that game could have put the Hail Mary behind them. Now they are in freefall.

The Bears entered a sports scene where the Cubs underachieved, the White Sox had a historically awful season, and where the Bulls and the Hawks aren’t even on TV for the vast majority of fans, and they still found a way to become the central disappointment of the city.

    Honestly, bravo.

Have not always been a fan of Josh Whitman the Illini AD, mostly because of his early hires in football and women’s hoops, but with the football program going in a positive direction and both hoops programs trending up and Whitman’s hire of the track and field coach, he’s changing my mind.

Now, on to the volleyball which seems lost.

Illinois volleyball is on track to make the NCAA tournament, although I would prefer a new coach.

Anyone else having trouble getting through to IMRF? They don’t respond to emails, letters, legislative inquiries, or answer the phone.

H.R.82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, may be called for debate today. It could help thousands of IL residents by eliminating the WEP, this impacts those who have worked in both public and private jobs. Raja is a yes vote.

I recently filed a claim with IMRF and it required several follow up calls. Most of these calls I had to be on hold for more than 60 min, with one at 2 1/2 hours. I didn’t trust the call back option as if you miss it, start over.

Overall my experience was disappointment and many errors caused by IMRF. Between the lack of responsiveness, the additional problems caused by their errors and the hold times, I was very upset at a time I was grieving the lost of my wife. I’m done dealing with them except for the issuing of the 1099’s which I hope they don’t screw up

The timing of the IMRF comments is interesting, as I was just thinking of asking if others were having trouble with responses from Fund personnel.

My Mom, a retired school secretary, died June 8. About a week after her death I called IMRF. After about two hours on hold I spoke to a seemingly competent individual who told me that I had called in time to stop her monthly benefit payable in early July. He also told me to mail in copies of her and my Dad’s Death Certificates. My Dad had died in November 2023 and was the first beneficiary. I was the second beneficiary, for a death benefit of $3000. The IRFM rep indicated that my sending in the death certificates immediately would expedite things.

Mom’s July monthly benefit and all subsequent monthly benefits were promptly stopped. However, I never received the death benefit. Finally, I called IMRF on November 1. After a lengthy period on hold, but less than the first time, I was told that my parents’ death certificates had been properly received, but that in addition there was a form I needed to fill out. I was to be sent this form. . . but have still not received it.

It’s been almost five months now, and I’m still waiting for a $3000 death benefit. As I don’t need the money, it’s more amusing than anything else on a personal level. However, there are people for whom this money would greatly help in burying a loved one or meeting other necessary expenses. For this reason I am upset about the situation.
