The WSJ editorial reminded us of the time that labeled you know who as GovJunk. When they paint the rosy portrait of Indiana they for get to mention the median salary is about $10K lower than IL. — but you can marry a lst cousin.
I’ve been upset with Durbin for a while now and will support a primary challenge if he runs again, but you can’t blame him for not derailing the Patel nomination. He did his job exposing the guy, but he’s up against a cult.
Does anyone ever get a real person when calling any of Durbin’s offices? I get either an automatic ‘use our website’ or a automatic ‘if you’re hearing this during business hours, we’re too busy. *hangup*’ And when I do use the website, I get back a generic email about the issue that could have been written by AI with how vague and not helpful they are.
I resent how it’s become a broadly accepted fact that if people emigrate from Illinois, it’s in the pursuit of lower taxes. Push and pull factors are incredibly complex, and these folks can’t keep getting away with using “lower taxes, duh” as the obvious reason for emigration.
I never get a live person when calling Durbin’s office, and the only response I ever get is a generic email that isn’t even related to my concern. He has done little for Illinois in recent years.
I am no fan of Durbin, but realistically what else could he have done to block Kash Patel beyond criticizing the nominee and creating delays?
The Republicans have a three seat majority in the US Senate, which is effectively four seats when the Vice President’s tie breaker vote comes into play.
The Democrats need four Republicans to oppose Patel and manage to flip only two. Asking Durbin to persuade four GOP Senators to switch was too much to expect.

Yes, I had some good emails with a Durbin staffer. But as soon as the issue we were talking about led to some difficulties for them, they lost interest and stopped responding to me.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board has an almost IPI-like obsession with rooting against Illinois. They are quite the Doom Grifters. Or Backseat Bellyachers. Or Spelunkers of Misery. Whichever one we’re going with. Anyways, they’re out with another hit piece today, citing only right-leaning sources and indexes: https://www.wsj.com/opinion/indiana-illinois-secession-boundary-adjustment-commission-todd-huston-j-b-pritzker-a3c18977

Well Dick Durbin failed as Dem Judiciary leader to derail Kash Patel as FBI director.
What is the next milestone we have to get past before he announces retirement?

According to Lynn Sweet, Durbin will decide if he’ll run again in early 2025.
