If I were running for US Senate and saw a moderate 20s carpet bagger getting significant national media/cable news interviews I’d be asking my staff a lot of questions and be considering some early campaign change ups.
Whoever taught this generation of politicos about “embargos” on press releases clearly didn’t treach them about doing their jobs.
Embarrassing. But credit to Kat where credit is due.
I was in northern Illinois and decided to go out for a run Sunday. I only got in 3 miles and I could not breathe, so I walked back. I’ve had a bloody nose Monday and last night. I don’t know if it’s all related, but I don’t remember the last time I had a bloody nose.
I hope all are doing ok from the fires in both your outdoor activity and those that are health compromised.

Kat Abughazaleh is a Democratic candidate for the Illinois 9th Congressional District. She has personality and communication skills. It is an open seat due to retirement.

RIP to a music legend, Brian Wilson.

@Rich Did you do a budget recap explaining why Kifowit and Walsh were the only two House Dems to vote against the budget? Crespo even voted for it. Sorry if I missed it.
whoa, Brian Wilson. I love that Cap Fax is a place I can go and find out things about music. I came here to post about the Pope in a Sox hat…it’s real…and find out the musical genius Brian Wilson has died. wow.

I see many commentors coming down hard on Kat Abughazaleh. I think they’d do well to give her a fair shake - while the “carpetbagger” allegations may have *some* limited credibility, it’s plain to me that she’s been working very hard to connect with her District.
===while the “carpetbagger” allegations may have *some* limited credibility===
It isn’t an allegation. It is a fact. There are people have never lived in Illinois but visited the Chicago Science center on a 5th grade bus trip who have better roots to the 9th CD.
Sure — she could do a great job campaigning and try to over come being a carpet bagger, but she fits the literal definition of a carpet bagger.

Thank you for your response. That’s some very colorful imagery (and a delightful reference to one of my favorite museums). However, I think it speaks to my point that naysayers are going to fixate on Kat coming from out-of-state while giving her zero chance to connect to the 9th CD. I think it is a campaign to watch for many reasons. One reason IS that she is an out-of-district candidate who recently set roots in district 9. If you watch with an open mind, though, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
Also, as a mid-20 something myself (and a lifelong Chicagoland resident at that), I’d like to point out that any 26-year old candidate will have to catch up on local networking. If I were to run for Congress in my district, I couldn’t exactly leverage connections with the park district league I played baseball in. This will be my last comment for sake of brevity, have a nice day.

I don’t understand the negativity towards Kat Abughazaleh. It seems out of proportion to any chance she might have of actually winning an election. If she lives in the district, she lives in the district.
==working very hard to connect with her District==
Except it isn’t her district in any way. She doesn’t live there, never lived there, and isn’t elected there. I’ve not even heard that she has a relative who has lived there.

Blazzzer, I interviewed Crespo. Kifowit and Walsh kinda fell through the cracks, so thanks for the reminder.

She only has to live in the state, and last I heard she was residing in Streeterville.
