C’mon, man

Wednesday, Jul 16, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller

* CNN last month

Monster and CareerBuilder, once two of the most popular websites for job seekers at the height of the dot-com era, have filed for bankruptcy.

The two sites, which merged last year to become one entity named Monster + CareerBuilder, voluntary filed for Chapter 11 Tuesday, announcing that the company is selling various parts of its businesses to several buyers as part of a court-supervised process, a press release said.

Monster and CareerBuilder were some of the biggest companies in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with the former brand so popular that it often bought Super Bowl commercials promoting its services. However, both have fallen out of favor for job hunters with the rise of competitors like Indeed, Glassdoor and Microsoft-owned LinkedIn in recent years.

Jeff Furman, CEO of CareerBuilder + Monster, said in statement that its “business has been affected by a challenging and uncertain macroeconomic environment” and determined that “initiating this court-supervised sale process is the best path toward maximizing the value of our businesses and preserving jobs.”

* The paid professional critics weigh in…

Sigh.

The horse and buggy industry in Illinois under DemocRats has gone down to almost zilch, too!

Google ‘IL workers’ comp” and you’ll see a long list of IPI stories from 2015-2017 predicting the end of the state’s economy if WC causation wasn’t addressed in the way right wing activists who don’t understand how insurance works thought it should be.
But it’s always groundhog day for these people isn’t it. Every day is a fresh opportunity to BS the gullible.

  5. - Scoot - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:02 am:

I honestly didn’t know the IPI was still around. Irrelevant they are.

  6. - TJ - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:07 am:

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody’s around, will the IPI find a way to blame Illinois Dems for it?

  7. - Johnny B - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:16 am:

CNBC ranks the Illinois economy 44th

Only Rhode Island. New Mexico, Louisiana, Kansas, Mississippi and Alaska are performing worse

They rank us 38th in business friendliness

Why on earth can’t Illinois do better?

Imagine how much social services spending and crime would naturally go down if our economy improved even marginally

  8. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:26 am:

Johnny - it ranks Illinois as the 13th best state overall for business. That is pretty good.

Sure you can cherry pick certain components of the ranking like you did, but I am not sure IPI is hiring given the death spiral Illinois is in.

  9. - Bigtwich - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:26 am:

Hey Johnny B I looked at your link. It rated Illinois as the 13th Top States for Business 2025.

  10. - Pundent - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 11:38 am:

Illinois didn’t put Monster + Career Builder out of business, LinkedIn, Indeed and poor management did.

How does the IPI and ILGOP expect to get college educated voters to support them when they keep insulting their intelligence?

  11. - levivotedforjudy - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 12:10 pm:

Monster/Career Builder going poof is really intriguing. It shows something has changed in how people are searching for jobs. But I would need to down a bottle of tequila and Malort to come up with the take the IPI had. WOW!

  12. - Give us Barrabbas - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 1:27 pm:

Rage, IPI, rage against the dying of the light. The more you double down on the lies, the more marks you lose. Your time has come and gone, you just haven’t learned to accept reality yet. No matter.

  13. - JoanP - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 2:03 pm:

What, you expected something better from the IPI?

  14. - Johnny B - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 2:50 pm:

The reality is there is plenty of room to improve the economy and business climate in Illinois

We need to follow what is working in other big states whose GDP is growing faster than ours and their unemployment is lower

The mission accomplished, victory lap attitude among so many here is delusional

We desperately need to add population with higher incomes instead of losing them or Illinois budget deficits will continue to get larger that they already are

  15. - Linus - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 3:29 pm:

==victory lap attitude among so many here is delusional==

I detect no such attitude here. Rather, an attitude of examining actual facts instead of spraying screeds.

What’s delusional is linking to data that tends to disprove your own argument. For heaven’s sake, these rankings even rank Illinois 6th in the nation for tech and innovation, and 8th for business infrastructure. The truth is both more complex and less dire than the “sky is falling” picture that you and the IPI paint.

  16. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 3:38 pm:

===The mission accomplished, victory lap attitude among so many here is delusional ===

    LOL

Typical. Presented with facts, you hurl personal insults.

  17. - CA-HOON - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 3:55 pm:

Illinois Propaganda Institute publishes propaganda about Illinois. Must be a day ending in “y”.

  18. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Jul 16, 25 @ 7:13 pm:

Johnny apparently would like Illinois to be more like Texas - number 2 in overall friendliness to business.

But Texas is #49 in quality of life. And has recently demonstrated to the country why it has such a dismal ranking in this regard.

Call me weird, but “quality of life” > “friendliness to business”

  19. - Johnny B - Thursday, Jul 17, 25 @ 7:18 am:

    Presented with facts?

Is Illinois attracting or losing high income residents ?

Is our economy and business friendliness ranking a contributor to this or not?
