Looks like the SJ-R (and maybe other Gatehouse papers) are slightly loosening up their paywall.
That is if you consider that to mean they are now generous enough to let you see the first 4 lines or so of the story before getting the “log in or subscribe” notice.
This morning I tried to read the Emma Shafer and CArroll County land preservation stories on the SJ-R and noticed that the bylines for both was “Abreanna Blose: Reporter assisted by AI.”
No thank you on paying exorbitant prices for AI-written stories that are likely at least partially made up.
Hopefully the Illinois Times owners or South County PUblications (Chatham Clarion owner based in Auburn) could buy out the SJ-R from Gatehouse and bring it back to respectability again. Even if they only publish a few days a week then the rest online.
