Source: Darren Bailey has decided to annouce for governor
Monday, Sep 8, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * A source close to 2022 Republican gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey just called to say that Bailey will indeed run for governor again in the coming 2026 election. The source said that Bailey’s running mate will be Aaron del Mar. A more formal unveiling will take place next week, I was told.

The nobody has been sent. We can go to be early on election night.
- Benjamin - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 5:28 pm:
Well, I guess the Republicans have to run somebody…

Hoo wee.
- 47th Ward - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 5:43 pm:
So does this mean the Wirepoints cabal is getting back together?
- cal skinner - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 5:44 pm:
As soon as I saw his symbol was a silo, I knew he would not win.

Just what the IL GOP needs - Darren articulating the views of the Eastern Bloc statewide.
- Oldtimer - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 6:00 pm:
Lost in ‘22 by 13%, perhaps the worst candidate to try to win back the Burbs, and outspent 7:1 by JB. What’s not to love?

-Well, I guess the Republicans have to run somebody…-
Give the Democrats credit: they are great at picking Republicans to run against in Illinois. A lot of success in their strategy.
- Pundent - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 6:05 pm:
Most candidates would be humiliated by the beating Bailey took in his last race. Bailey isn’t most candidates. And history tells us he’ll probably win the primary. And when he loses to Pritzker, again, the ILGOP will chastise the voters.
- Pot calling kettle - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 6:06 pm:
Looks like JB will be running a primary campaign…I wonder who he will be backing?

==Darren articulating the views of the Eastern Bloc statewide.==
I believe you mean “articulatin’.”
- Power House Prowler - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 6:15 pm:
He was the worst of the worst. I hope never again.
- Rudy’s teeth - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 6:21 pm:
Searching for noise-canceling headphones so I never have to listen to Darren Bailey’s voice.

=Looks like JB will be running a primary campaign=
There’s probably no need for JB to do anything. Ken Griifin and his money have left the state. Moderate Republicans know they need not apply. Bailey’s opponents will be trying to prove that he hasn’t cornered the market on being a wack-a-doodle. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Pretty please can we get Devore for AG again too? I need some laughs under the current federal administration.

=== the ILGOP will chastise the voters.===
Nah. The far right will criticize the state party for not doing enough

It’s a crazy strategy. Democrats point out what Illinois Republicans say. Golden Bullet election winner.
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 7:47 pm:
I am not sure that Darren Bailey can win the primary without Richard Irvin to run against.
I give Dabrowski the edge.
MAGA does not like losers. Bailey lost in 2022.
- Tim - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 8:10 pm:
Once again, no reasons for moderate Republicans to vote in Illinois. Two elections in a row to sit out.
- Norseman - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 9:40 pm:
=== no reasons for moderate Republicans ===
That group doesn’t exist anymore. They’re being hunted by the MAGAs. Former moderates are either independents, not so excited Democrats or fervent anti-MAGA (raises hand).
- A-AronDarrenBaildeMar - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 9:49 pm:
They will karate chop the way to 43 percent victory in the primary. A-Aron will help gather domestic abuse coalitions. D-Ran (R-Body Armor) can spend the next several days attacking nearly every film that might be right-leaning. Final prediction - Pritzker 42, D-Ran 28, the rest of us just sit out the goobernatural race.
- ZC - Monday, Sep 8, 25 @ 10:17 pm:
The Bailey race was an interesting one to teach in class since you could literally show students, “OK, for those of you who think Dems only win because of Chicago, take out all the votes in Chicago from the total (pro-Pritzker and pro-Bailey); Pritzker still wins.”
