Unclear on the concepts
Wednesday, Sep 17, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * Notice anything missing from this brainiac’s “analysis”?… ![]() What’s missing is Rep. Benton’s 2024 totals. Benton won by 2,335 votes in 2024 - 52.21 percent to 47.79 percent. That’s a higher margin than his 2022 victory of 51.66 percent to 48.34 percent. Politics ain’t magic, unless you traffic in such a thing and your followers don’t know any better. * For whatever reason, House and Senate Republicans have an inordinate fear of Tom DeVore, even though he doesn’t seem to understand basic politics. For example, DeVore’s backing a Republican candidate against Rep. Charlie Meier and regularly slams the incumbent for highlighting local businesses, restaurants and festivals… ![]() That’s just so unbelievably ignorant. Praising local businesses and organizations is a core function of any good politician. DeVore’s constant attacks just reinforce the notion that Charlie is everywhere in his district and truly respects the hard-working people who provide goods and services to his constituents. People (literally) eat that stuff up. I really think Republicans should start sending Facebookers DeVore’s way because he’s inadvertently making their case for them.

the same brainiac was just railing the minority leader for raising money, then his next post was about the minority party not having any money. i guess when you lose your law licenses you have to find a second stream of income some where

“For whatever reason, House and Senate Republicans have an inordinate fear of…”
Everything. They have an inordinate fear of everything.

If he’s going to start labeling people with childish nicknames. I’d suggest he start be being referred to as Tom Unethical Representation Devore. Or just use the acronym for it.

Devore’s goal, like Dan Profft’s and others, isn’t to actually win elections but to further his own self-interests. You won’t find any consistency or logic because that’s not really part of the objective. The fear amongst the Republican electeds’ stems from their own perceived weakness and lack of confidence in their voters.

“If we can get a line item share of those voters…”
I think he means “lion’s share,” lol. And you know what, between the exclamation points and the Chicken Dinner nickname, I have a guess as to why House and Senate Rs have an inordinate fear of him, as you say: DeVore’s shtick is a dollar store impression of the politician that all elected Rs fear the most.

Does this guy even have a job or is he a professional internet troll?

He hasn’t, at least not yet. The case is pending.

For reasons unknown IL GOPies in recent years have stopped ignoring morons like DeVore. Perhaps they should return to that tradition especially since most of the their moneyied ( perhaps not a word) morons have fled the state.
- NIU Grad - Wednesday, Sep 17, 25 @ 10:14 am:
MAGA-types view any traditional politics as a waste of time, and only view Trump groveling, profiteering, and fermenting rage online as the way to “win.” That’s why Cong. Miller is their statewide model (who doesn’t highlight anything in her district and consistently opposes any efforts to bring federal funds back home).

He vote analysis is very misleading. His whole thesis is that if Repubs turn out in mid-terms like they do in presidential elections they would be more competitive. Sure, but what he leaves out is that if Dems turned out in mid-terms like they do in presidential elections, the Repubs don’t gain a thing. And, with the slate of statewides that the Repubs put up last mid-term, it is not like the Dems needed to turn out in large numbers to be victorious.

=== DeVore’s constant attacks just reinforce the notion === that the Republican Party in Illinois is led by crazy people. You can’t win votes by acting crazy and hating on yourself.

He thinks the childish nickname is clever or funny.
If I’m Charlie Meier, I lean into it — pointing out that going to these dinners not only supports great causes and organizations, it helps me keep in touch with constituents.
“Do I go to a lot of chicken dinners? Sure do.
Spaghetti dinners? You bet.
Church picnics? Love seeing everyone at the church picnics!
Why? Because these events not only support great organizations and worthy causes, they’re a great way for me to meet and hear from the people of the 109th District.
For example, it’s how I learned about (give examples).
Sincerely, and proudly,
Charlie ‘Chicken Dinner’ Meier

=== You can’t win votes by acting crazy and hating on yourself. ===
I wish that were true; in some areas that seems to be exactly the way to win.

Same.
- ArchPundit - Wednesday, Sep 17, 25 @ 11:14 am:
That kind of posting is really good at community building as well. You might be different politically from Meier, but seeing him support a restaurant you like gives you something in common.
Not surprising Devore is against that.
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Sep 17, 25 @ 11:24 am:
=Praising local businesses and organizations is a core function of any good politician.=
Which is why Tom “O-fer” Devore doesn’t understand.
The good news is, he makes village idiots everywhere look good. So he has that going for him. Which is nice.
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Sep 17, 25 @ 11:25 am:
===gives you something in common===
An excellent point.
=== Not surprising Devore is against that. ===
Another excellent point.

“They have to be … signed up for vote by mail…”
Sounds to me like DeVore didn’t get DJT’s updated directions on that

“The fear amongst the Republican electeds’ stems from their own perceived weakness and lack of confidence in their voters.”
I’d say the lack of confidence is justified considering their base loves DeVore. Our local failed book banner tells everyone who will listen to follow DeVore. He’s an oracle to them.
