Chuy Garcia’s chief of staff files petitions to run for his congressional seat (Updated)
Monday, Nov 3, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * No statement yet, but Patty Garcia has filed petitions to run for the 4th US House seat currently held by incumbent Rep. Chuy Garcia. Patty Garcia is Rep. Garcia’s chief of staff. Also, 22nd Ward Chicago Ald. Michael Rodriguez has filed to run for state central committeeman, a position Rep. Garcia now holds. Looks like the end of an era. There’s some thought that one reason Rep. Garcia did it this way was to ensure that the district stayed in Latino hands after his retirement. …Adding… The Sun-Times…

Chuy seemed to be slowing down

I remember how elated I was when I was redistricted into the 4th (from the Lippinski family fiefdom 3rd at the time).

WHAT?! Instead of a robust primary, Chuy handpicks a successor. BEYOND disappointed in him. Such an awful way to end an otherwise storied career supposedly about the people.

Congrats to the Congresswoman for my district for the rest of my life. Glad the people of the 4th got a say in this…

He’s been cutting deals for years. The detente with Madigan carved out alderman seats and legislative seats to not take out Mike. I’m not bashing it. Its politics. Maybe inside baseball politics but oh well.

Been There is correct about the history. Some of y’all need to be better informed before posting here.
This ain’t Twitter.

Not surprised. Chuy always pulled the machine levers when they were within reach.
You either gamble on democracy producing good candidates via primaries, or you don’t. Announce you’re not running before petition gathering

I never believed he wasn’t a hack. His final substantial act as an elected official makes me validated for feeling this way. Props to him for pulling it off, though. Madigan couldn’t even get it right.
