Today’s quotable

Monday, Nov 10, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Last week

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction restricting the use of force by federal agents in Chicago, finding the Trump administration’s version of recent events involving agents was not credible.

One of the incidents in question was a confrontation between federal agents and protestors, where Gregory Bovino, a top Border Patrol official charged with the immigration crackdown in Chicago deployed tear gas.

Judge Sara Ellis found that Bovino wasn’t hit in the head with a rock prior to deploying tear gas despite claims from the Department of Homeland Security justifying the use of force. “Defendant Bovino admitted that he lied,” she said.

“Video evidence ultimately disproved this,” said Ellis, who is presiding over a case concerning the heavy-handed tactics used by federal agents in Chicago. Bovino, who sat for an hours-long deposition, said he was hit after the tear gas was thrown, Ellis said.

* Today…

* He didn’t just call Pritzker a liar today

The agents took a few photos, then they left the park by 7:30 a.m., some posing for photos and navigating over the slippery ice from the night’s winter storm.

As they exited, Bovino called Block Club Chicago “Chicago’s Liars Club.” He questioned the publication’s coverage of federal immigration operations in the city.

“How come you never report on the work we do to improve the community?” Bovino inquired.

Discuss, but please take some deep breaths first.

How come y’all never do work that improves the community.

===“Defendant Bovino admitted that he lied,”===

I can’t imagine the kind of rationale that causes a US Senator that has represented this state for decades to give a major political and legislative win to the people who are doing this to your home.

Is Durbin unaware that this is happening, or does he think that by rolling over it will eventually get better?

I would love for someone to challenge the legality of CBP other than an Airport or port operating over 100 miles from the Canadian border.

Perhaps he should try doing any work that actually has an improvement to the community first?

I don’t often say this, but what Candy DoGood said +1

Each day brings new assaults on civil liberties in Illinois, all because a majority of us voted for the other candidate.

I want to say “I never thought this would happen” but that’s an understatement of my bewilderment.

And yes, Durbin failed to meet (another) challenge…

  6. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:06 pm:

As far as I can tell, there have been no criminal prosecutions.
    Why?

Tell us about the arrests at the Bean this morning

Thank goodness for Block Club Chicago, Axios and the everyday people filming all this. It seems pretty obvious why the ban on private drones was issued too. I’m not sure how feasible it would be for the CPD to have their bodycams on in these situations. I’m sure someone will chime in on why that can’t be done.

Like much of the federal administration currently, this and much of what Bovino does is to troll people and try to get a reaction. I have little confidence they could actually identify real threats at this point. Bovino started asking some poor guy in line buying a soda where he was from. This is not what America is supposed to be.

Bovino’s agents mace a toddler on camera and he calls it improving the community. I get it, though. To the GOP and MAGA faithful, “This is what [they] voted for!”

===I would love for someone to challenge the legality of CBP===

“Midway Blitz” is an ICE operation which CBP is assigned to. The judge in the Castanon Nava case is therefore holding CBP to the same limitations as ICE.

…This is from the ACLU of Illinois.

  14. - Siualum - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:34 pm:

I’d like to see them (Bovino et al) give a daily or weekly report listing all the drug kingpins, gang leaders and murderers they’ve arrested in Chicago. I tried googling such info but come up empty.

  15. - West Side the Best Side - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:35 pm:

Yes, the Latin Kings recruit a lot of pre-school teachers and one year olds. Bovino and his face covered cowards wouldn’t last an hour doing a ride along in Englewood or Austin.

  16. - JS Mill - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:48 pm:

=== “How come you never report on the work we do to improve the community?” Bovino inquired. ===

Maybe a list of the charged or convicted latin king members who are not in the US legally would help.

    I won’t hold my breath.

  17. - Rudy’s teeth - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:48 pm:

Wonder when Bovino, et al., will visit the Holiday Market near Dearborn and LaSalle to keep it safe from invaders? Perhaps they’ll post up at Wrigley Field’s Winter Wonderland? Let’s not forget about Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo.

What a waste of time and money to create photo ops that have no purpose.

Hope that some of these troops will lace up a pair of skates and take a few spins around Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon before they leave Chicago.

  18. - OneMan - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 1:50 pm:

Funny, they can remove the masks when it’s time for a fun photo.

  19. - Scoot - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:00 pm:

Nice to see my taxpayer dollars at work here! If the goon squad isn’t busy taking tourist pictures, getting DUIs, they’re posting on social media like an 8 year old. Bravo guys!

  20. - Amalia - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:08 pm:

first the Cubs use the Bean, now this….

  21. - Earnest - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:11 pm:

I think we’re closer to the day when Bovino arrests Pritzker than we are to them leaving. Democratic leadership threw away any leverage they had against Trump, and they were building a good bit. Trump is seeing no consequences from pardoning the Jan 6 crew and did a new batch of election deniers. He’s getting away with extrajudicial murders at sea. It’s an easy line from Venezuelan drug gangs to the ICE/CBP operations. They’ll just need to generate some convincing unrest for social media ahead of midterm elections. Please convince me it’s hyperbole.

  22. - Casper the Ghost Bus - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:19 pm:

Bovino heard the man in The Bean might be Latino so he ordered it surrounded.

  23. - Norseman - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:23 pm:

Every Bovino post only enhances the Governor’s fortunes.

  24. - City Zen - Monday, Nov 10, 25 @ 2:25 pm:

==“How come you never report on the work we do to improve the community?” Bovino inquired.==

    That would be DNAinfo.
