* Gov. Pritzker was asked today if he plans to endorse in the Democratic primary race for comptroller…
I don’t have any plans right now. I know all of the candidates that are running. One of them happens to have worked for me, and I know her work probably better than anybody else, but I don’t have anybody in mind right now. But there’s a lot of time between now and March.
Five Democratic candidates have filed petitions to run in the primary. Rep. Margaret Croke (D-Chicago) is the candidate who worked for Pritzker’s administration.
* The governor was also asked today about this…
Pritzker…
Today is yet another example of the well, the terrible nature of our president when he’s attacking Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner. I was with them four days ago, and these are some terrific people. They care deeply about people. They have political views, but they also are just, they’ve been philanthropic. They care about their community. They have done so much for early childhood development, early childhood education. If you’re unaware, you should go look at it. Probably the most important work, maybe in the nation, was done by them. And to have the President of the United States attacking them. And really, I just, I don’t understand, I don’t understand. I don’t understand why the President has to do things like this. What is wrong with him that he has to attack people? Especially when their families are suffering. And that’s just one example, but yeah, there are a lot of examples of things that I wish Democrats and Republicans would stand up and speak out about, and that today is yet another example of that.
More in a bit from today’s presser.

Classless.
- Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:33 pm:
The governor is much nicer than I am when it comes to the president’s comments. That’s all I can say in polite company.
- Rich Miller - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:40 pm:
Lots of comments are being held for over the top responses.
Take a couple of very deep breaths, people. This ain’t Twitter.
- Da big bad wolf - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:41 pm:
TDS killed the Reiners? Here I thought they were stabbed to death.
- Head in Sand - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:44 pm:
Ironically, this tweet is an example of why TDS exists. He is the virus that causes it.
- Crispy - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:57 pm:
I appreciate the governor’s measured and humane public comments in times of crisis, and especially his empathy for those suffering from tragedy.
- Steve - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 1:57 pm:
What happened to the Reiners is beyond horrific. Anyone who doesn’t have compassion for the family and friends of the Reiners and what they are going through should not comment. No one deserves what happened to the Reiners .
- Grandson of Man - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:04 pm:
“What happened to the Reiners is beyond horrific.”
Thank you. And that applies to anyone of any political stripe or profession. Hoping one day America will turn away from all the violence, and more toward reconciliation of differences. It will take a monumental effort.
- Steve - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:11 pm:
-And that applies to anyone of any political stripe or profession.-
I totally agree. Civilized people don’t engage in violence.
- NomChompsky - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:25 pm:
I don’t want to sound sanctimonious but before gloating over the death of a non-supporter or critic, I might consider how the public mood would be affected by my own passing.
I doubt he has forgotten how people responded publicly when he lost the 2020 election.
- JS Mill - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:30 pm:
Malignant narcissism on display.
Our governor and many, many others (including most everyone here) understand basic human compassion and empathy even when we may disagree with someone.
- Steve - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:35 pm:
-I don’t want to sound sanctimonious-
Anyone who doesn’t have compassion for what happened is not a good person. Rob Reiner, from all accounts, was a good person.
- ZC - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:40 pm:
JS Mill called it above. It’s kind of a shame sometimes, for defensible reasons, psychologists called for an end to diagnosing public figures with narcissistic personality disorder using only second-hand sources. In general that’s a good idea, but with Trump, you can almost see it from space. And now with age, any self-restraint / filter he had, seems to be coming off.
- Rudy’s teeth - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:48 pm:
The president exhibits the behavior found in Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Intermittent Explosive Disorder. These disorders indicate that he has a lack of control, lacks awareness, and cannot control his emotions.
It might be time for the family to intervene and remove Grandpa’s keys…or remove his phone.
- Uncle Merkin - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 2:50 pm:
I am saddened that our President reacts this way to a double murder. What will it take for people who support him to step back and realize that this is simply unacceptable? I hope it takes less than an economic collapse or military conflict, though history suggests that those are the two most common ways to uproot a movement like his.
- Big Dipper - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 3:17 pm:
Not sure what a family member affected by substance abuse and mental illness has to do with their politics. Trump’s brother was an alcoholic, so you’d hope he would have some understanding of addiction but he belies the saying that with age comes wisdom.
- Google is Your Friend - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 3:19 pm:
Besides his work for early childhood development, Rob Reiner was also a critical top-level organizer for marriage equality and the fight against Proposition 8 in California.

Is this who we are? These erratic, no empathy, cruel unhinged comments would not be tolerated by: Your supervisor, your company or organization, principal at your child’s school, your child’s boyfriend, a dinner, the athletic coach, your child’s mentor but yet are tolerated. This is about decency and morals!!
- West Side the Best Side - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 3:51 pm:
Trump is the one suffering the most from the Trump Derangement Syndrome. What a terrible way to respond to horrific murder.

“Factory-style disinformation and algorithmic manipulation aim straight at our minds.”
From Secrets and Spies Podcast: Espionage | Global Issues | Current Affairs: The Fourth Intelligence Revolution with Anthony Vinci, Dec 13, 2025
We have arrived at a place where we all have to much more able to recognize this factory style disinformation that attempts to influence us. We are now all targets of foreign intelligence agencies outside our borders. They are turning open society into the modern battlespace.
- Occasionally Moderated - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 4:07 pm:
Argh. Above post intended for the afternoon briefing and the Taylor Swift article. Maybe it fits here too.
- Pundent - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 4:09 pm:
When we’re unwilling or unable to call out abhorrent behavior we get more of the same. We’re well past the point of the governing political party looking the other way and pretending that this is somehow normal or justified.

With all due respect, people are entitled to be outraged by inappropriate and just cruel remarks about this tragedy.
Don’t go easy when it’s not warranted.
- Rich Miller - Monday, Dec 15, 25 @ 6:19 pm:
=== people are entitled to be outraged ===
They have a plethora of social media options for that sort of venting. Aside from the occasional comment that slips through, this place has never been and never will be one of them.
