Good morning!
Friday, Dec 19, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * Darlene Love’s still got it, baby… * Thanks so much to everyone who donated to help us buy Christmas gifts for foster kids this year. We’ve done well, especially considering that we didn’t receive the $10,000 anonymous gift we were blessed with in each of the past two years. Not factoring in that annual anonymous donor, this was our best year ever, and we even topped last year’s grand total. Y’all are the best. We have built a real community here over the decades. I just cannot thank you enough. But, if you haven’t given yet, or you’ve found some extra money under the couch cushions, please click here. Lutheran Social Services of Illinois won’t use any of your money for overhead. It all goes to the kids. * This is an open thread. A suggested convo: What’s up with your holiday plans?

Right now it looks like it’s going to be fixing a holiday dinner for me and my mom.
Ham,mashed potatoes,gravy,corn,Stove Top stuffing,rolls.
Haven’t quite decided on a dessert yet.
Hey CapFaxers,any dessert ideas?

Found my late mom’s rib roast recipe and going to try and replicate her roasts, with creamy horseradish dressing on the side.

Adult kids will be here. Turkey on Christmas Eve and then leftovers and a down day on Christmas itself. We usually go on a walk in the timber on Christmas and the weather sounds like it will be good.
We are getting into making good coffee and I want to do a lot of experimenting. Daughter has a Breville espresso machine and I just got a Moccamaster brewer and grinder. Going bean shopping today.

Going to my parents house, brother and his family are in town. This will be the first time in almost 10 years we all are together. I am looking forward to that.

Surgery. Nothing major, but I figured scheduling it when family was in town made sense.
We had latkes last night, and a couple of days ago had our annual dinner with a long-time friend and his husband.
= any dessert ideas? =
If you’re feeling ambitious, there’s always Bûche de Noël. Less complicated, but also good: poached pears with chocolate sauce and ice cream.

Kids and grandkids will be in town. No big plans, pretty low key. The best part is watching the little ones engage in the Xmas activities. They’re only young once.

Thank you Rich and Isabel for another year of fantastic work. Also great job by the commenters. Doing a small family get together, with ordering out/cooking at home combo. Happy Holidays.

We’ve hosted Christmas for over 30 years. For the first time we are traveling and our daughter is hosting. Here’s to hoping this is the new tradition

We plan to drive around town looking at our neighbors’ Christmas lights while drinking our special cocktail…cranberry juice and 7up.
