I second the motion on the ISU Redbirds. When I went there Doug Collins and the basketball team got all the attention. Very glad they are doing well this year, especially as the world of big-time college football implodes.
Interesting Wall Street Journal story about Pritzker’s “clout” allegedly being on the line in the senate race. I tuned into WGN this morning to see if a post-holiday, JB-funded Stratton advertising blitz was underway. Nada.
Simplify things for the merchants? One less exception to code into the cash register software? Papers were just as numerous / scarce in MO & OK as here in Central IL.
Why has IDHS selected another out of touch, white woman from Springfield to lead as the Director of Family & Community Services? Highest percentage of IDHS clients are in Cook and the collar counties. Another leader who lacks the sensitivity or respect for Black and Brown communities and it’s people.

Good luck to Illinois State Redbirds tonight. It would be great to have a national football championship in our state.

Factoid for future discussions on expanding the sales tax base. MO & OK charge sales tax on newspapers (as CA has done for decades). IL still doesn’t.

==IL still doesn’t.==
You aren’t raising a significant amount of revenue from that so why have that fight?
“A January 2024 report from the Illinois Local Journalism Task Force noted that only 5% of Americans prefer print publications for their news”

I mean, so few papers are printed now. What would even be the point except to push them out of print entirely?

Happy new year to all [exclamation point]

Changing the procedure would not be simplifying anything.

Don’t you remember how the sales tax on faxed newsletters drove Rich completely online?

Use the revenues to subsidize recycling programs and … ok, nevermind, I can’t stop laughing
