Rate Heidner’s new ad
Thursday, Jan 15, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * Not sure how much money is behind this, but Heidner had a bit more than a million bucks in his campaign account as of the end of the year…
Looks like he used an AI video clip of Pritzker. Also note that the ad includes an overlay calling Heidner a “Trump Republican.”

Nobody believes in term limits anymore — do they? Eyes need to be wide open too. Other than the ad is a masterpiece
- Candy Dogood - Thursday, Jan 15, 26 @ 1:06 pm:
LOL, how’d cutting taxes go for the last Republican businessman that tried it?
I suspect he’s got a move to Florida in his future.
- Excitable Boy - Thursday, Jan 15, 26 @ 1:07 pm:
I can’t stand hearing ELLinois.
Also, it sounds like he says he’s going to pass term limits and wasteful spending.
And he has a very annoying voice. D-

What a strange looking and strange sounding individual. I guess I give it a C- if it’s to introduce yourself to MAGA voters. But even then the concept falls flat

Creepy and weird. And that impression is before I saw the “Trump Republican” notation Rich pointed out.
Overall: D
For Heidner’s target audience: B+

He won two Republican primaries.

Right. Sorry, I just forgot this part because that LOL was literal. It’s really not his fault that the GOP has a primary electorate that is not bound by realistic fiscal policies.
This is an okay ad. I am resisting the urge to be nitpicky, but I give it a B+. I think it does a good job introducing the candidate to people who don’t know him, establishes himself as an alternative to Pritzker and gives an answer to why he’s running that also ties back into a negative statement about Pritzker — but can be applied to his primary opponents, too. He also gets three specific issues out there as a basis why to support him.
The ad itself ignores the reality, but I don’t think that’s really a concern for the intended audience.

Weird how he doesn’t explain how he’s going to cut the local taxes that the state has little control over. It also should be interesting to see how he’s going to pay for roads, bridges, and transit if he gets rid of or reduces the motor fuel taxes.

- What a strange looking -
He looks like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys except with a goatee.

@ excitable
For real, could his team not have given him a proper cut before the shoot?

As a fairly left-leaning guy, there are plenty of reasons to bash Heidner without going after appearance. Heck, just search for his name in prior CapFax posts.

Fair enough. A really bad ad that doesn’t really talk about any specific policies nor does it mention what his “businessman” experience actually is.
C-.

I see zero reason to comment on anyone’s appearance. How many republicans take pride in fat shaming JB every chance they get? They’ll just say “both sides are the same” if democrats start doing the same.
- Jerry - Thursday, Jan 15, 26 @ 1:46 pm:
F-. Terrible production and content. What about roads and schools? That’s what Republicans want.

No one ever believed in terms limits in this state. Or cutting taxes. So, there’s that. I give the ad a ‘D’. It’s a weird ad .

Rick Heidner has a face and a voice for selling used cars. Also, a tinge of a Chicago accent during the spot.

Y’all rating his ad like you’re cashing Chowkowski and Bailey campaigns.
