Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper would’ve played the Les-Buzz Ballroom in Spring Valley on the 7th, the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on the 8th, and the Springfield Armory on the 15th, but for the plane crash. As it was, the show went on without them, with some replacements and other band members who didn’t get on the plane.
A personal highlight of 2025 was being asked to escort Mavis Staples at the Hideout.
When I was helping her into the car, I told her how much her family meant to my family — and that my telling her what happened was going to blow my mother’s mind.
“Well! Then let’s take a picture together for Mama!”

Got to see Mavis a few years ago. Great performance, great personality.

This whole album is amazing. Glad to see her win two Grammys!
Saw her live a couple of weeks ago, and while she’s clearly aging, it was still an incredible show.

And we did.
Well and truly blew my mom’s mind (and mine).
