* Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Heidner in January…
I’m in a regulated business. You know, I’ve got, we’ve got four major businesses as a family, and the biggest businesses is my Gold Rush business and and it’s regulated, by the way, you know, the governor is my regulator. So this, this is not the smartest thing I’ve ever done in my life.
From Gold Rush Gaming’s website…
Gold Rush Gaming offers world class games from some of the best vendors in the industry. We offer the latest and greatest in video gaming technology to our locations. The Gold Rush team works with each partner to guide, recommend, and provide VGT machines that perform best in their specific market. Gold Rush Gaming works with Scientific Games, Bally, IGT, WMS, Spielo, Novomatic, Aristocrat, Light and Wonder, and the m3t Terminal.
* So, the obvious question here is, if, as Heidner says, the governor is his “regulator,” then what would Heidner do about that obvious conflict of interest if he is actually elected governor? Nobody else who has interviewed him asked that question, so Isabel did. From his spokesperson…
Rick is going to personally divest himself of the gaming since it would be a conflict of interest.
The devil will be in the details, of course. But at least that’s the start of an answer. And, of course, he has to make it through two campaigns first.

I don’t think he has to worry about it. But didn’t the Governor own part of a gambling boat? I know he sold out but I don’t know if that was way before he entered politics or as he started to enter politics

Hey Rich, technically not on topic, but have you seen Kat’s newest TikTok concerning the carpetbagger allegations? While analogies are imperfect, she compares her move to Chicago to refugees and transplants and attempts to say the carpetbagger routine is cover for those who have an issue with her being Palestinian. Left a really sour taste in my mouth.

I’d bet our Governor would appreciate your genuine concern.

I saw it, and it is a profoundly bad move for a candidate who touts her record of calling out BS by politicians and in political media. It’s the tried-and-true move of performing outrage at the thing that’s not happening to deflect from legitimate criticism. It also shows she does not get the essence of “from here” that pervades a lot of things in Chicago, and reminds voters that, well, she ain’t from here.
Kat impressed me by backing up her words in Broadview, but she’s absolutely not winning that race. She can hang her hat on nudging the primary left and discouraging other candidates from merely walking in the shadows of Durbin and Krishnamoorthi. And hopefully she learns a few things from her campaign, and she and Ben Collins enjoy our fair city for a good while to come.

Personally divest to his kids, right?

I stopped referring to her as Kat Abucarpetbagger because she convinced me she was serious enough when she got assaulted during the ICE Protests.
My concerns about her being a carpetbagger are because of her multi-generational Texas Republican roots.
That being said, she is working very hard to be the next Democratic candidate for the 9th congressional district and seems to be taking that very seriously.

The R candidate is projecting again, worried someone who regulates his business would do something negative to him. The Rs repeatedly show themselves as the ones who would do this to an opponent.

One consistent thing about narcissists is they believe everyone else is just like them…they unwittingly reveal themselves through their projected “fear” of retribution.
