please please make sure that home ownership programs include working with people to make sure they are ready for the responsibility. lowering costs and providing downpayment assistance are good things. but not everyone is ready for the ongoing costs of owning a home. goverment loan programs in the 60s were not run well and many who were not ready got homes and tons of foreclosures happened. There’s plenty of vacant land in Chicago. Build on it. funds for infrastructure issues below vacant ground an important point. also, start by creating dwelling units for the homeless. that’s the biggest need now.
