Perhaps the only thing more astounding than a 16-year-old quitting at the prime of her career is a woman who took three years off returning as if no time had passed. Yet in some ways, Liu’s triumphant return makes perfect sense.
She is here on her own terms and as her full self.
When Liu opted to return – cautiously, carefully – she made sure she was in charge. She partnered with her old coaches, Phillip DiGuglielmo and Massimo Scali, making it clear that theirs would be a collaborative process. Liu trains when she wants, and readily admits she’s overslept every now and again. She chooses her music, contributes to her choreography and has a say in what she wears.
Freed from the albatross of expectation, Liu has now leaned into expression. She is not just an autotron who can land axels; she is an artist feeling her way across the ice.
I’m waiting for either a story of willie preston’s phone being hacked, claims that the messages are AI, or a report of vandalism to his campaign office. its about that time in the election season for some craziness.
I watch and try to think where are the moments in my life when I feel such a combination of joy and competence. I need to work on maximizing that. Didn’t like the visibility driving to work today, windows getting misty coated. I was glad it was warmer though for when I was opening up the windows when I needed to see better.

Nothing but rain today here in beautiful DuPage County. Had been looking forward to warm temps but wasn’t expecting a deluge. No sun until Sunday apparently.
But on a positive note- yes, Ms. Liu is terrific..
This is about the tenth time I’ve watched this amazing performance by Ms. Liu…She sculpts a stunning visual image with her body…I started to say athlete then I realized Liu is an artist unmatched.

Intense dedication, muscle tears, strained tendons, broken toes, and hour after week after months and years of training more difficult than many other pro athletes, including boxers…plus winning the genetic lottery at conception.

Incredible performance. How does an athlete get to this level of performance and joyful perfection?
And what part of her story isn’t interesting? Even a dose of international intrigue!

Fog and rain. Just finished the first thunderstorm of the day. Here’s hoping the central and southern parts of the state are getting this, too.

Wet but warm(ish). There was fog earlier, but it’s dissipated.

Ted/”Tad” Dabrowski sat down with the campus newspaper at UIUC, and gets dragged for his comments about foreign nationals and his bonkers takes on DEI
