Question of the day
Wednesday, Mar 23, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller I didn’t exactly have permission to run those crosstabs yesterday, but I figured it was easier to ask for forgiveness. Since I eventually did have to ask for forgiveness yesterday afternoon, there’s no more permission. Oops. Anyway, here are two more poll results from the Topikna survey, sans detailed crosstabs. “Do you approve or disapprove of the way George Bush is handling his job as president?” “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Rod Blagojevich is handling his job as governor?” I can probably tell you that the most interesting crosstabs have Bush with a 45-51 approve/disapprove in the Cook suburbs, while Blagojevich is at 51/43 in the Cook suburbs, and just 64/25 in the city, with 64/29 among Democrats. Discuss the implications.

Shimkus has heart surgery
Tuesday, Mar 22, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Respublica reports, and it’s confirmed, that Illinois Congressman John Shimkus underwent heart surgery today. …to repair a condition called “severe mitral valve regurgitation”. He is presently recovering in a St. Louis hospital and is expected to remain there for several days after which he will spend the rest of the Easter Congressional recess at home. A close friend of the Congressman said he was doing well.

Question of the day
Tuesday, Mar 22, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller The governor’s generic re-elect numbers are not good at all. I’ve seen worse, but if anybody over there is predicting victory they’re more full of hubris than would be advisable. From the Topinka poll: “Do you think Rod Blagojevich has performed his job as governor well enough to deserve re-election, or do you think it’s time to give a new person a chance?”
And the crosstabs:
Discuss.
