Today, the Democratic Party of Illinois is launching a new tumblr to highlight Republican Mark Kirk’s Trump-like habit of making offensive, embarrassing comments and the backlash Kirk’s gaffes have received. The title, “$#*% My Senator Says,” is a play on [S**t] My Dad Says, a New York Times bestseller.
“Republican Mark Kirk’s Trump-like tendency to make offensive comments isn’t just embarrassing — his frequent gaffes belittle the office he holds. They are a good reminder of why it’s hard to take anything he says seriously,” said Democratic Party of Illinois spokesperson Sean Savett.
Head-turning Kirk quotes featured on the Tumblr include:
And then it goes on for 45 minutes with the 27, 8×10 colored glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one as evidence against him.
More troubling in recent weeks, to our thinking, have been a couple of scurrilous accusations by Democratic Senate candidate Tammy Duckworth against her Republican opponent, incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk. If we ever thought Duckworth might be above cheap shots, we know better now.
Duckworth loaded the two false accusations into a single tweet on June 8: “Kirk, who called for the mass arrest of 18,000 African Americans, was apparently fine w/ Trump’s #StillTooRacist call for mass deportation.”
Did Kirk in fact call for the arrest of 18,000 African-Americans? No.
Is it true Kirk has no objection to Trump’s call for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants? Also not true.
At that time, it was just a single tweet, so I didn’t get too fired up about the whole thing. Yes, it was underhanded, but it was only one tweet.
He has said that um, you know, he thought that, um, all the members of the uh, uh, uh you know 15 thousand plus of African-American men should be jailed because they’re suspected of being members of a gang, without due process.
Interesting that Tammy thinks all these gang members are African American. That is the type of bigotry you don’t see often anymore. She is a hollow shell controlled by those she is beholden to. Blago, Quinn she is a puppet who can’t stand or think on her own.
The can’t stand on her own comment was meant as she is controlled by others. After reading it I realized it is a bad choice of words in this particular case.
Appears they’ve replaced the spokesperson…that’s a step in the right direction. The rest is a mess. Her diction in the video is irritating as well.
This just really isn’t like her. Don’t know why she’s doing this. She’s going to wind up pushing more support to him than he can do himself. Very weird race.

The Congresswoman and her camp have engaged in these sort of underhanded tricks for months. Due respect to Congresswoman Duckworth, but this goes above and beyond the usual rough and tumble spin that is commonplace in politics. It’s just dishonest.
It’s incredibly ignorant for her to first of all, assume all GDs are African American, and second to phrase it like she does. Putting it in the context that she does is not what Kirk said at all.
It is incredibly ignorant to say that the majority of GD’s are not African-American. You know, like how the majority of Latin Kings are of Latin American persuasion. And as the Aryan Brotherhood is white.
So the Duckworth Campaign and/or the Democratic Party of Illinois received permission from all of those celebrities, TV personalities and cartoon characters to use their images on this piece?
This is a strange comment thread. It’s a gang people! — A criminal gang that is terrorizing innocent citizens as it competes for power with other gangs who are also terrorizing people. Some commenters here who apparently think they’re helping Tammy because it’s more important they make sure that everyone knows the Gangster Disciples is a nearly all black gang, rather than that it IS a gang, is baffling. This is supposed to somehow be helpful to the cause? Whose cause?
Advocating the arrest of violent gang members is not racist, but should be considered a public safety issue and welcomed by all law abiding citizens.

The Duckworth camp is coming off as petty with their criticisms against Kirk, and it only does more damage considering the claim on the mass arrests comment has been proven false. Hopefully the voters will catch on to this stuff, it’s getting silly.
Yeah I don’t get this tactic either. Is she really attempting to champion the civil rights of reputed gang members? While they do have rights of course, do they really think being on that side of that issue will play well with the voting public?

Your first link sent me to lyrics of Alice’s Restaurant, which was cool, but I was hoping to go the tumblr account.

Duckworth’s only advantage is that is 1) she’s a democrat 2) injured veteran
She has little to offer. I am only supporting her because I don’t want a GOP senate.

A majority of posts on that Tumblr are about as bad as claiming Kirk wants to put 15,000 (18,000) African Americans in jail. This is just so petty.

Exactly. The makeup of the Supreme Court is the biggest issue for me this election. The Oval Office and Senate balance is crucial to that.

@51st ward:
Kirk’s remarks referenced a specific gang, not gangs in general. And that particular gang is African-American. Her statement is accurate.
