Uh-oh
Tuesday, Aug 8, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller Sneed, who has excellent federal sources, claims that Stu Levine was wired. Translation: Sneed hears rumbles Levine — a Republican insider who forged Democratic ties after Gov. Blagojevich took office — reportedly wore a wire . . . for the past 11 months . . . and recorded everybody from Springfield lawmakers to a former Chicago alderman. We already knew that Levine’s phone was tapped by the feds. This wire thing is a new one on me. You have to assume that everyone is wearing a wire these days. And anyone who spilled his guts to Levine after the investigation started is beyond stupid.

It ia not that “beyond stupid” is a Star Trek voyage, There are people who have been there and returned. There are also people who are still in orbit around that area.
- Chick McGann - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 8:33 am:
When Mike Sneed actually shows up for work, she demonstrates that she is extremely well entrenched in the right federal offices. Rich, you should start another thread on the tasty tidbit that Mike Noonan is running Stroger’s campaign and that the GOP lament the fact that Antoin Peraica is their nominee for County Board President.
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 8:47 am:
Never met him…Thank God.
- VanillaMan - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 9:12 am:
Thankfully, we haven’t seen many stupid people in this administration, so everyone should be safe.
- Ravenswood Right Winger - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 9:35 am:
Is Sneed still wishing Happy Birthday to Perry Como?
- Lee - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 9:39 am:
When Blagojevich etal get indicted it will be fun to read all the commnents from the liberals about the right wing Republican conspiracy to get Blagojevich. Oops! The federal prosecuter is the same guy who indicted Scooter Libby. Well, I am sure they will come up with some justifiable reason to try and discredit Fitzgerald. I wonder how many and how deep these indictments will go.
- B Hicks - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 10:08 am:
Usually by 10:00am, a good Stu Levine thread will have 30 or 40 comments. The cat must have a few tongues this morning.
I wonder if there are any nervous republicans out there.
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 10:08 am:
B Hicks, I wouldn’t read too much into numbers of comments.

wearing a wire is a real bummer.
It becomes difficult to shave. You can’t look yourself in the mirror. It takes a long time to heal. when you’re wearing a wire and you like the person one thing you can do is talk like it is a phone conversation/dealer speak/code. this way you kind of appease the feds and semi-protect your buddy. The speculated wire wearing prominent GOP fundraiser, if it is who I think, has everybody spilling their guts almost all the time. This is a new world. All you old timers need to wake up and smell the discontent. Nothing will ever be the same in crime/politics in Illinois. All that protection money ain’t worth a thing. Unbelievable. I don’t even know how to feel. One thing is for sure. As the years have flown by the quality of candidates at all levels of illinois govt. have decreased more each election that passes. What person in their right mind would deal with this crap.
The monkey’s have turned on their senses so nobody is safe. For those out there who know what I am talking about, good luck and I won’t be calling.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Blown away.

The only good thing about wearing a wire is that it will be harder for him to make things up about people he doesn’t like. Levine is a slimeball and I wouldn’t put anything past him.
- Eliot Ness - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 11:34 am:
Bobby Hicks, you meant to say nervous republicans and democrats out there. Stu led a bipartisan life.
Talk about a “tale of the tape…”
- annon. - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 12:36 pm:
Chick McGann, you really have a Peraica fetish, don’t you?
- annon. - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 12:38 pm:
Forgot to mention … by “GOP” lament, my guess would be that you’re referring to your pal, Maureen Murphy, who is undoubtedly Sneed’s source. Since when do her moods become that of the entire GOP?
- In deep Stu-do - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 2:19 pm:
any idea on who might be nervous? Former Alderman? Any names who might be in deep stu-do?
- Chick McGann - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 2:20 pm:
annon:
This was Mike Sneed’s assessment, not mine. But I do have it on sound authority that there is a move afoot to replace Peraica at the head of the ticket with “the Clown” himself, Ray Wardingly.
And, Mike, it seems that you’re the one with the fetish over Maureen Murphy, whom I’ve never met. I’ve actually asked this question before, can you name five credible elected officials who supports Tony? Ronnie Serpico and Larry Dominick don’t count.
- annon. - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 2:32 pm:
Howdy Chick,
First of all, my name is not Mike. Second, you previously posted that Maureen Murphy was your “aunt”, so what gives? Third, the entire world (except you, apparently) is quite aware that Ron Serpico hates Peraica’s guts, so what’s you agenda? Finally, there are dozens of elected officials listed on Peraica’s website as endorsing him. Then again, you’ll probably just call them all “not credible” or some other such nonsense. Wasn’t this thread supposed to be about Levine wearing a wire? I mean, the cartoon section of the SunTimes has Garfield in it; does that mean it’s on point to make a comment about Garfield?
- Chick McGann - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 2:49 pm:
annan:
Obviously Mike, when I called Maureen Murphy my aunt, I was being facetious. Having never met her, I would guess she wasn’t related.
I figured Ronnie and Tony kissed and made up once the Giglio firm was installed in Cicero, where Tony’s buddy, Larry Dominick calls the shots. And since you’re from Melrose Park, having run for Mayor there yourself, I thought you’d smooth things over for Tony with Ronnie.
Since this thread was about Sneed and her scoops, I suggested that Rich start a thread to discuss the Tony thread but I guess he didn’t want to.

There is something else here. Levine has been cooperating and taping for a long time, close to a year, but no charges other than Levine and Cari, which the feds presumably knew of in the first place. But the change is that he is now meeting with a well known plea deal defense attorney.
It leads me in one of two directions:
1. The feds are having trouble making solid cases, and will now wrap up Levine, or
2. There are fireworks afoot.
My head votes for the former, my gut says the latter. This is Illinois, after all - the Feds have fish in a barrel.
- Garp - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 3:42 pm:
When the Feds let it leak that someone is cooperating and was wired what does it mean? Are they ready to indict? Are they trying to squeeze other witnesses? Is it a true link and not supposed to have been let out?
I think they are trying to squeeze others.
- Garp - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 3:45 pm:
I meant true leak-(not true link)
I am not in the fence business.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 4:58 pm:
Putting news out that someone’s wired is basically a last chance call for people they are looking at or want information from to come in and play ball. As they say, you can be on the train, or you can be on the tracks.
- In deep Stu-do - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 10:30 pm:
can anyone shed some light as to who might be nervous?
- Roy Slade - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 11:10 pm:
Rich- This would be a good time to have a contest: “Just how many indictments will occur prior to election”.
Since I can’t post anything nice about the Govervich (comments now closed)- I would say that he will look good in stripes!
- Anon - Tuesday, Aug 8, 06 @ 11:53 pm:
Unbelievable. Many are freaking out. Can anyone seriously consider Blagojevich for re-election? This guy is going down… sooner or later for the Health Planning Board and TRS scandals alone. Not to mention the enumerable other investigations such as hiring and Rutan, frauds, tollway mess, and contract clusters. Jeez.
- Horace Mann - Wednesday, Aug 9, 06 @ 1:00 am:
Don’t you all think it’s about time that we stop defaming the retired teachers and their pension fund? Same thing for the hospitals. This isn’t any agency scandal any more. It’s ROD BLAGOJEVICH’s scandal. He, and he alone, let Kelly and Resko run free through State Government, giving them extralegal authority in at least one case we know about (Rosemont
Casino) as well as knowingly reappointing Levine not once, but twice, to sensitive State appointments.
There’s a future QOTD: Name Rod Blagojevich’s Scandal.
How sad for the people of this great state, let down once again.
