Friday afternoon video/radio blogging

Friday, Oct 13, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Today’s State Week in Review program from Illinois Public Radio should be good. The archive is here, or just click below.

[audio:10132006.mp3]

* OneMan responded to my call yesterday for snarky ads to help Gov. Blagojevich out of this mess by actually producing a TV ad himself. Great music. His best effort to date and it can also be found at the Capitol Fax YouTube “vlog.”

* Also at the vlog is this kinda goofy but somewhat entertaining “song” for Dan Rutherford’s SoS race:

* IIS: Early voting for the November election kicks of Monday

[audio:early.mp3]

* Also from IIS is this bad news for farmers: Asian soybean rust found in IL

[audio:rust.mp3]

* This afternoon’s IIS story package inclludes this one about the U of I offering live video visits with soldiers in Iraq

[audio:soldier.mp3]

* This is a pretty good positive ad for Rod Blagojevich.

Great commercial, OneMan! I’ll expect that Blago’s people will be in touch with you to air it on tv within the next week or so. Gotta get their digs in on Judy.

  2. - Angie - Friday, Oct 13, 06 @ 6:53 pm:

Good God. It is spelled “allegations” folks.

  3. - Walking Wounded - Friday, Oct 13, 06 @ 9:09 pm:

    Hi Angie,
I thought perhaps that OneMan misspelled allegations on purpose. After everything that’s been reported this week, I couldn’t fault Blago’s folks for being “naive” on their spelling skills.

  4. - (618) Democrat - Friday, Oct 13, 06 @ 9:23 pm:

New Poll just released by WGN shows the Governor up by 14%. The voters also believe by a 11% margin that the Governor is more likely to clean up coruption.

  5. - RealClear - Friday, Oct 13, 06 @ 10:53 pm:

The interesting things about that poll was that it was taken in reaction to the Rezko indictment. Only %30 of those polled said that Blagojevich could be trusted with cleaning up government - but only %20 would trust Topinka.

This poll was also taken before folks got a glimpse of Topinka on the catwalk this evening. Seriously, it is even more disturbing that her dance with George.

All Blagojevich needs to do is play that segment from the news this evening, with his “What is She Thinking?” tagline and this race is over.

I’m sure it will be on YouTube soon.

    Eh, not really funny.

  7. - Lovie's Leather - Friday, Oct 13, 06 @ 11:28 pm:

You ever feel like you know something that 99% of the population doesn’t. That is how I feel with this governor. Am I the only one who can see how corrupt, dishonest, and dumb he is??? I feel like the only people that know read the Capfax. All of the other Tribune, Suntimes, and Journal Star readers are left in the dark. Why aren’t these outlets honest?! For years, conservatives have blamed the “liberal media.” But it is not the liberal media, it is the moronic media. There is absolutely no professionalism left in the newspaper business, not to mention common sense, discipline, honesty, integrity, cultural values. Well, fine. If these idiots want to keep the public naive, then do so. If Blagojevich gets reelected… and then he gets indicted and makes Illinois look just as bad or worse than George Ryan did, I wash my hands of it. Because it will be the fault of the media and the voters. And if you want to look like fools, it is no concern of mine!!!

  8. - RealClear - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 12:09 am:

Lovie - The voters do know Blago is corrupt. But, they also know that Topinka is no better. Even with this latest indictment, Topinka and Birkett can’t detach themselves from the scandal as long as Cellini, Glennon and Levine are involved.

The fact is they are both corrupt. Maybe in your eyes Topinka is a bit more acceptable. But even if you choose to vote for the lesser of two evils - you are still voting for an evil.

For most of us that is an unacceptable option.

And JJ, you’re right. It’s not funny - it’s disturbing.

  9. - Angie - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 10:21 am:

Ah. Walking Wounded has it figured out. They spelled it “alligations” on purpose, then. A way to show (as a joke in the commercial) that they are subject to make errors as with most humans.

Either that, or it was a potshot taken at the sorry state of the Chicago Public Schools. lol

Can anyone believe that Rod has had a legal education, though? I mean, he is coming up with some seriously weak arguments in his own defense, there. So lawyered up, yet stumbling left and right.

If I were his counsel (and I do mean counsel, as in plural, as in it’ll take a whole firm to help him out), I’d tell him to shut up and quit talking. Period. lol

  10. - DOWNSTATE - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 10:52 am:

He will be up in Chicago polls since he has delivered most of the Illinois budget to Chicago. Why kill the goose that lays the golden egg.Plus people up there have lived with corruption so long they think it’s natural.

  11. - anon - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 12:14 pm:

I’ve heard people say that a sitting governor cannot be indicted without first being impeached. Does anyone know if this is true?

  12. - (618) Democrat - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 1:52 pm:

Downstate: The WGN Poll is a State wide poll. You never let the facts or the truth factor into your comments do you?

  13. - DOWNSTATE - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 2:04 pm:

618 sorry but Rasmussen and USA Survey are probably the closest since they normally run close to the real numbers and they have him at 6% which means he lost 4%.I know guys like you want to go with the biggest numbers but like a couple of weeks ago when that Chicago news outfit gave him 30%.WGN walked the streets of Chicago talking to people. The fact is these two polling corporations have been time and again on the money.Keep dreaming.Anyone want a look go to the realclearpolitics website and you will find all the numbers there.I think average with all the polling data he is only given 9%.

  14. - Name/Nick - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 4:08 pm:

if you want to listen to State Week in Review while walking the dog, throw http://media.uis.edu/podcasting/wuis/podcast.xml into your Juice or Bloglines (or itunes if you are a follower of Jobs)

  15. - Arthur Andersen - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 4:52 pm:

RealClear, AA thinks you’ve been hitting the EverClear. That and whatever talkers the devastated Blago campaign staff can come up with while they’re not lawyering up themselves.

Why don’r you post just one scintilla of RealClear documentation-besides an ancient campaign contribution-that establishes a corrupt connection between the individuals you name in your post?

Seems to me that in the cooruption count your boy Rod is behind by several indictments (with more obviously on the way.)

BTW, the WGN/Trib poll was started before, and concluded, the day of Rezko’s indictment. Read before you post.

  16. - Garp - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 4:54 pm:

To be Real Clear these polls were taken before the Rezco indictment. I am sure new polls are a comin.

  17. - JakeCP - Saturday, Oct 14, 06 @ 8:41 pm:

Angie lol that was the funniest thing that I have ever heard. hey people stop waiting for these big time polls to come out who will only ask certain peopel to vote. You can vote right now at jakeschicagopolitcs.blogspot.com Anyway I am very worried at how someof these poll numbers look. Maybe some Democrats who are really mad at Blago will vote for Whitney. At least thats what my poll is indicating os far.

  18. - Garp - Sunday, Oct 15, 06 @ 12:25 am:

    #

Resco missed the boat that day he left the shack
But that was all he missed and he ain’t comin’ back

At a Arab bar in a jukejoint car he made a stop
Just long enough to grab a handle off the top

Next stop, Chi-town, Resoco put the money down, let it roll
He said, “One more job oughta get it
One last shot ‘fore we quit it
    One for the road”

  19. - xamyar - Sunday, Oct 15, 06 @ 11:34 am:

Polls and comments set aside, has anyone noticed that the gov’s claim of “healthcare for every child” is an outright lie? His program is only a campaign tool that circumvents the current medicaid program, but only a select few are actually approved, unless of course, an ILLEGAL ALIEN applies. Yes, they’re covered without the documentation that citizen’s have to submit. I’ve got more info, if anyone is interested.

  20. - Common Sense in Illinois - Monday, Oct 16, 06 @ 3:29 pm:

I was finally able to view the governor’s commercial. It really is a strech. First, the governor is standing, obviously, in a factory and talks about the “sound of jobs being created.” Well, in some sectors maybe. But in manufacturing, since Rod Blagojevich took office in 2003, Illinois has lost almost 48,000 manufacturing jobs. Where have jobs been created? In leisure and hospitality and temp agency jobs, according to the governor’s own Dept. of Employment Security.
