If Quinn becomes governor that would mean that Governor Blagojevich will have won the national election in ‘08 for president or vice-president. Otherwise he will still be governor.

I think the real answer to the QOTD, Rich, depends on when the 100 day clock starts to run. The extent to which Quinn can clean house-AND replace with smart people of unquestioned integrity-could make all the difference. To the extent Blago 1.1 didn’t have any directors in front of the Senate until Spring ‘06, Gov Q may have some flexibility. He will also be tempted to carry some of Blago’s biggest staff liabilities “because they haven’t been indicted yet” or because there won’t be tons of good people lining up to take the spot.
For example, any volunteers for budget director for Pat Quinn following John Filan?
I would concur with the other posters that the legislative honeymoon is gonna be short.
1. Freeze everything not thawed out
2. Fire all appointees and agency directors from the last six years
3. Use public demand to instate term limits
4. Out source all state government functions to Iowa state government to really get things done
5. Out source all state government functions to Louisiana if step four fails. This will give us more of the same and unbounded entertainment.
Quinn will do exactly what he’s done as Lt. Governor, which is nothing. He’ll be silent on important issues, do some ribbon cuttings and then come up with another half brain idea which involves him looking like an idiot.
Quinn may be a good guy, but don’t count him being a leader when he’s put in an actual hot seat.
The real question should be who will take over for him when he quits after realizing he’s not fit for the job.

I-80 here’s a few more. Chris Kelly runs the GSA, and John Filan appoints himself Treasury Secretary and consolidates Treasury with OMB. Condi Rice stays as Secretary of State. The State IEMA guy who said the folks in Metro East who lost their homes in a tornado just wanted “cash money” is a natch to take the federal spot.

What the Democrats have been proving to us this election season has been their unwillingness to change directions. Most are still backing Blagojevich even as Fitzgerald writes up more indictments. They want to win, and are willing to win in the worst way. Quinn has no chance in this atmosphere of corruption and greed.
This entire exercise in what Governor Quinn will do is reprehensible. The idea that the Illinois Democratic Party will somehow reform the rot they are infected with is a fool’s dream. Quinn will become Chester Arthur and the Illinois Democratic Party will continue to suck Illinois into further debt and disaster.
Day 1 - Bill slithers away into oblivion to lick his wounds.
Day 2-101 - We read, hear and see a constant barrage of publicity about former GoverNOT Hairdo’s indictment, trial, attempt at plea bargaining, and impending sentencing. Elvis finally announces because he is now a convicted felon that he will be unable to run for President until 2026 when he is released from prison. By that time, a U.S. Constitutional amendment has been passed with the help of Ted Kennedy allowing convicted felons to run for U.S. President, thus pitting Elvis against underdog and unknown Chelsea Clinton in the primary. However, we still have not seen or heard from Governor Quinn since he moved into the Executive Mansion. Governor Quinn has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest serving democratic governor in Illinois. That is because elections for Governor have been eliminated due to lack of candidates and the public basically doesn’t give a rat’s a$$ anymore.
Bill is whistling in the wind if he thinks there’s no chance A-Rod could be indicted. As far as Gov. Quinn, one change is that he’d at least talk to those Republican legislators willing to talk to him. He might use the bully pulpit to launch an initiative drive to restructure the legislature.
After Madigan recovers from his mild heart attack he will ensure that Quinn accomplishes absolutely nothing, while the House Democratic staff will continue to sneer at Quinn and engage in petty fights because they can’t understand anyone who has actual ideals and is in politics for something other than gaining power for the sake of having power.

The only way this is going to work is if Quinn has a sit-down with Watson and Cross and lays out a bipartisan agenda that neither they nor the Tops will obstruct. The dems would need to remember they have a short amount of time to erase the stain of Blagojevich and re-build the lost goodwill of the electorate with DEEDS if they are to have a chance at winning the next round of elections.

Note: I’m not sure how Lisa Madigan matches up against Pat Quinn in a Democratic primary for Governor. If Pat actually throws the rascals out and reforms education funding, I’m not exactly sure how Lisa makes the case that he should be fired.
At long last Quinn has a platform to push “public recall” through the Illinois General Assembly, which Madigan then uses to mastermind a successful ploy to have Quinn recalled. In an emergency, special election Barack Obama is elected governor with Dan Hynes as his Lt. Gov. running mate. Subsequently, following the details of a secret political deal, Hynes is then named Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate, leaving the lt. gov post vacant.
Gov. Obama then runs for president in 2008 (because no one gets elected president from the U.S. Senate). Since there’s no lt. gov when Obama wins and leaves for the White House, AG Lisa Madigan becomes governor under the terms of the state constitution.
See, it’s really all quite simple.
Could Pat Quinn really do much more damage than has occurred under Ryan and Blagojevich? I don’t know much about Mr. Quinn but I am of the impression that both Republicans and Democrats alike think that he is an honest man. Am I correct on that? Perhaps, maybe one with too much time on his hands because his political position is a “do nothing job” but an honorable man just the same.
I don’t think he could really do much worse than we have seen. As far as the Green Party guy named Whitney, the more that I hear and read about him and his views, the more that I think that he might also be better than either Rod or Judy. He is not a “wacko” or a “hug a tree” type of guy like I had originally been led to believe. He actually seems to be a moderate and rational type of individual, the more that I learn about him. Maybe he has some large skeletons in his closet that I am not aware of but, on the surface, this Richard Whitney actually makes sense on many of his views. It is too bad that the media don’t give him the coverage that the other two (Rod & Judy) get so we could learn more about him. And no, I am not a Whitney supporter by any means. I am just curious to learn more about who this man named Whitney is really all about. The only fault that I can find with him is that he is a lawyer. But, perhaps he is “that lawyer” that I have always been told about that is within their ranks that has a code of honor and integrity?
I refuse to envision electing a governor with the only hope being that he will be corrupt, convicted, and sent to prison.

And a Gov. Quinn would be much more moderate than people think. He does a lot of off-the-wall stuff out of political necessity–to grab attention and stay politically relevant. But when in power, he always acts judiciously.

Where has quinn been the past few months? Why hasn’t he condemned the scandels that have been talked about? As much as JBT was Ryans Treasure, Quinn is blogo’s Lt. Gov. The first 100 days of Quinn’s administration– the unqualified, the used car salesmen, the interns, the agency liaisons etc. would be fired for being totaling incompentant to handle any state job that they have been handed in the last 4 fours.
The Rezko thing is going to churn some more, WAY more, when/if he makes or blows his next appointment to plea. Plus, we have yet to hear from Emil or Big Mike on their continued support or lack of same… they are probably all waiting to hear the plea before activating their plans.
If Rezko pleads guilty, we’ll know he’s made a deal, and everybody in Blogovania will be pulling the yellow-and-black -striped handle between their knees.
If he pleads innocent, or goes on the lam, it means trench warfare and a prolonged battle of attrition thru the election and into a quagmire first year of what will no doubt be a shorter than normal term of office, should he survive the next few weeks. So I think a poll this Friday or weekend will mean more.
This is probably a coincidence and means nothing… but I leave the office late sometimes, so I get to see the janitors cleaning the offices on my way out the door. Since last week, the volume of shredded paper and disposed-of office supplies is easily double what I normally see. Its probably nothing. Maybe a bunch of contractors in the building just finished their gigs and emptied out their desks… maybe some time limit on retaining records passed and they dumped a bunch of old paperwork that’s expired now…maybe a number of people just decided to clean out their offices all at the same time…

GOP GAL - I have studied polls for many years inside and out. Rasmussen has always been correct and fair. There are many reasons polls vary so wide. Usually they have an agenda and therefore manipulate to insure they get their desired numbers. Sometimes they are just lazy.
Perhaps someone should go and look back at his political hirings while he was (Edgars?) state treasurer. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself).

Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble, but I wouldn’t get too excited about a Quinn Governorship being in the offing immediately after the election, even if Rod is indicted. He is not going to easily or quickly give up his position as Lord Emperior. Rod will fight mightily to retain his position as “His Excellency, the Governor of Illinois”. He will NOT sacrifice himself for the “good of the people” (he doesn’t care about the citizens of Illinois, just his own ambitions). We, the people of Illinois, will be facing four more years of a governor who will do as he pleases and establish his own monarchy in route to his goal as the King of the United sTates of America. If he wins, get ready to start chanting “All Hail King Rod” while being forced to genuflect at his throne. Remember, folks, he sees himself as having the Divine Right of Kings to be the successor to Camelot.

This entire exercise in what Governor Quinn will do is reprehensible. The idea that the Illinois Democratic Party will somehow reform the rot they are infected with is a fool’s dream. Quinn will become Chester Arthur and the Illinois Democratic Party will continue to suck Illinois into further debt and disaster.

By that time, a U.S. Constitutional amendment has been passed with the help of Ted Kennedy allowing convicted felons to run for U.S. President, thus pitting Elvis against underdog and unknown Chelsea Clinton in the primary. However, we still have not seen or heard from Governor Quinn since he moved into the Executive Mansion. Governor Quinn has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest serving democratic governor in Illinois. That is because elections for Governor have been eliminated due to lack of candidates and the public basically doesn’t give a rat’s a$$ anymore.

The only way this is going to work is if Quinn has a sit-down with Watson and Cross and lays out a bipartisan agenda that neither they nor the Tops will obstruct. The dems would need to remember they have a short amount of time to erase the stain of Blagojevich and re-build the lost goodwill of the electorate with DEEDS if they are to have a chance at winning the next round of elections.
The dems capitalized on the last couple years of Republican decline and disarray, striking while the r’s were weakend and factionalized. Blago will have the dems all caught up to the republican’s sorry state in short order, we’ll have parity as far as disorder is concerned. What the government will look like is two drunks trying to hold each other up as they totter down the street. Jones and Mike Madigan could make a big difference in the recovery, depending on how they play their roles.

At long last Quinn has a platform to push “public recall” through the Illinois General Assembly, which Madigan then uses to mastermind a successful ploy to have Quinn recalled. In an emergency, special election Barack Obama is elected governor with Dan Hynes as his Lt. Gov. running mate. Subsequently, following the details of a secret political deal, Hynes is then named Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate, leaving the lt. gov post vacant.
Gov. Obama then runs for president in 2008 (because no one gets elected president from the U.S. Senate). Since there’s no lt. gov when Obama wins and leaves for the White House, AG Lisa Madigan becomes governor under the terms of the state constitution.
See, it’s really all quite simple.

Could Pat Quinn really do much more damage than has occurred under Ryan and Blagojevich? I don’t know much about Mr. Quinn but I am of the impression that both Republicans and Democrats alike think that he is an honest man. Am I correct on that? Perhaps, maybe one with too much time on his hands because his political position is a “do nothing job” but an honorable man just the same.
I don’t think he could really do much worse than we have seen. As far as the Green Party guy named Whitney, the more that I hear and read about him and his views, the more that I think that he might also be better than either Rod or Judy. He is not a “wacko” or a “hug a tree” type of guy like I had originally been led to believe. He actually seems to be a moderate and rational type of individual, the more that I learn about him. Maybe he has some large skeletons in his closet that I am not aware of but, on the surface, this Richard Whitney actually makes sense on many of his views. It is too bad that the media don’t give him the coverage that the other two (Rod & Judy) get so we could learn more about him. And no, I am not a Whitney supporter by any means. I am just curious to learn more about who this man named Whitney is really all about. The only fault that I can find with him is that he is a lawyer. But, perhaps he is “that lawyer” that I have always been told about that is within their ranks that has a code of honor and integrity?

And a Gov. Quinn would be much more moderate than people think. He does a lot of off-the-wall stuff out of political necessity–to grab attention and stay politically relevant. But when in power, he always acts judiciously.

The Rezko thing is going to churn some more, WAY more, when/if he makes or blows his next appointment to plea. Plus, we have yet to hear from Emil or Big Mike on their continued support or lack of same… they are probably all waiting to hear the plea before activating their plans.
If Rezko pleads guilty, we’ll know he’s made a deal, and everybody in Blogovania will be pulling the yellow-and-black -striped handle between their knees.
If he pleads innocent, or goes on the lam, it means trench warfare and a prolonged battle of attrition thru the election and into a quagmire first year of what will no doubt be a shorter than normal term of office, should he survive the next few weeks. This is probably a coincidence and means nothing… but I leave the office late sometimes, so I get to see the janitors cleaning the offices on my way out the door. Since last week, the volume of shredded paper and disposed-of office supplies is easily double what I normally see. Its probably nothing. Maybe a bunch of contractors in the building just finished their gigs and emptied out their desks… maybe some time limit on retaining records passed and they dumped a bunch of old paperwork that’s expired now…maybe a number of people just decided to clean out their offices all at the same time…
(cue theramin music)…or maybe it’s a sign. Like the farmers almanac folk tales of wooly bear caterpillars predicting how cold a winter it will be.
I’d say by the looks of the caterpillars, very cold, indeed. Very cold.

Why hasn’t Pat Quinn spoken out about the corruption that is being made known within the Governor’s administration? Isn’t this exactly the same reason that so many are hesitant to vote for Judy? Timidity cost Jim Ryan a governor’s race.
If you watch a crime being committed and fail to speak out or report it to the federal authorities, then why would we seek to put you in a leadership role? We have too many timid and self-serving politicians in this state as it is.
