Gibson City officials started an “Honor the Chief” day in 2005, when controversy over the University of Illinois athletic teams’ mascot was at a peak. And now that the Chief has officially been retired, this town and its leaders still want to celebrate the Chief and what they believe he represented.

Gibson City Mayor Dan Dickey, while not a UI alumnus, joins many of the town’s 3,374 residents in being passionate about Chief Illiniwek.

ahh the dream of al la carte cable pricing…

  2. - Anonymous - Friday, Aug 24, 07 @ 10:37 am:

I have never responded to your Friday Beer Blogging before, but I did have most of those cans when I had a collection, including Sterling and several of the mid-70s Schmidt scenic cans.

I believe Wiedemann’s was brewed by G. Heileman in the 70s; don’t quote me; I’ll Google it later.

When I was in Deep Southern Illinois on business several years ago, I ordered a Stag–a can I collected some 25 years prior with my father when we were coming back from St. Louis.

They said they immediately knew I was not from around there because “no one orders Stag Around here…”

This was in spite of the Stag signs and that evening’s raffle, a Stag cooler, which, incidentally was pretty cool looking.

Too funny. Birkett says that the State’s Attorney’s office shouldn’t be used as a political stepping stone after he has twice run for statewide office.

AFSCME question - are they willing to endorse a primary candidate against Blagojevich should he be foolish enough to run again? I think Jack Franks would be a great candidate. Socially moderate, fiscal conservative. Franks and Fritchey - there’s a team :-)

  6. - Storm Survivor thanks to Baskerville - Friday, Aug 24, 07 @ 12:44 pm:

Not So Fast brings a corollary to a viewpoint I saw yesterday. Hugh’s poetry is becoming worse than the original real “Hugh’s” poetry which is untenable, unlistenable and unfit for educated palates.

But it is just signals he is sending.

So, he has an issue with some comments.

And, for no reason I might add as I am on his side.

  7. - Northbrook "Mayor"-- (not a Village President?) - Friday, Aug 24, 07 @ 1:29 pm:

    Hava Nagila.
