* 5:49 pm - From the Tribune, which is really doing an excellent job of live-blogging the Rezko trial. I just wish they’d put an RSS feed on it…

The second government witness was an FBI analyst who said his computer review of Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s campaign records tied Rezko to more than $1.4 million in fundraising activity. That figure is nearly three times what Rezko had publicly acknowledged raising on behalf of the governor.

Yikes.

Also, no bombshells in former chief legal counsel Susan Lichtenstein’s testimony. Too bad. I’m still curious why she and most of her top staff resigned en masse. Rezko was there for her job interview, however, and present at “periodic strategy sessions” held by the governor.

* Meanwhile, Andy Shaw talked to Barack Obama for a couple of minutes today. Obama claimed he had answered lots of Rezko questions (even though he hasn’t fully come across with crucial information), and Shaw ended his piece with this…

The Obama campaign is still considering a lengthy Q&A session with local reporters to answer any lingering questions, and they’re considering a lot of requests for documents that haven’t been released yet because they know that some members of the media aren’t satisfied with the information so far, but the Obama campaign is hoping reporters put the same amount of pressure on Clinton, and eventually McCain, when it comes to finances, disclosures and ethics.

That press conference would be a good idea. Get it over with now.

Rezko in meetings/interviews while not having any official position. Sounds just like Larry Warner and Geo. Ryan to me.

    Rich,

Obama should do a presser on Rezko and then go on the offensive, pushing hard for the Clinton’s tax returns.

    i agree. get it over.

    now.

don’t let it drag on any longer. he’s got plenty of time between now and Pennsylvania, so do a presser sometime within the next 3-5 days.

its sort of like ripping a band-aid off. just do it quickly. of course it will hurt, but you won’t be prolonging the pain.

  4. - Bud Man - Thursday, Mar 6, 08 @ 9:25 pm:

They have to do a long presser and a sit down with Trib/Sun-Times people at this point. If they don’t do full disclosure, the questions will keep coming. And if they don’t come out and fully address it in the next few days, then you could safely bet there is something there they don’t want people to know about. He’s in a tough place right now.

Learn from Clinton: after the Gennifer Flowers scandal and stuff, they went on what was it, 60 minutes? …as a couple, and laid it all out, and the press immediately got so bored, they dropped follow-up and spent more time showing the out-takes clip of Hillary yelling “Jesus, Mary & Joseph!” when the light bar fell and almost conked them in the head. Point being, innoculate yourself now, Barack, like you did with the earlier full disclosure on the dabbling in drugs as a youth. Should have fixed this sooner, would have looked like more bravery/character. And do it here in Illinois, where you have a friendly base behind you. Like pulling off a band-aid, getting it over quick is the best thing to do.

It won’t shake my faith in the candidate; Hillary’s dirty negative campaigning already chased me away from an earlier 50-50 position towards Obama. Of the two, he definitely has fewer skeletons in the closet.

If I was a writer for SNL, I’d do a skit where president Hillary has to take a call at 2 AM and it turns out Bill Clinton has been arrested for public indecency… again and needs bail, or an easy pardon.

Like he did with his drug use, he was actually 9at least somewhat) honest about it and disclosed the fact that he used drugs as a minor (I believe).

He has been able to seemingly stay above the fray. His surrogates (channel 7) should ring up the old Keating 5 for those of us to oyoung ot remember.

Wrong. They stonewalled and got away with it.

The depressing lesson the Clintons taught was that if you slowly dribble out information, no matter how nauseating, you can conditon a large segment of the population to accept it and just want to move on.

When he wrote the book, he had no idea he would be running for President let alone get elected to the U.S. Senate.

He has been quoted as saying that if he even suspected that he would have a successful political career he would never have mentioned it.

So far, that’s not working for Obama all that well. Bill and Hillary never had to deal with the Chicago press on a daily basis.

According to Hillary, he’s been planning his bid since kindergarten. lol

Regardless, I am no Obama fan, but this proved to be a brilliant move in hindsight.
