Mid-evening update
Saturday, May 30, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * Twitter was down for a while but it’s back up now. …Also… I didn’t notice it until now, but Patterson live-blogged the debate. 8:15 pm- The Senate is currently considering a tax increase bill. And House GOP Leader Tom Cross is shocked that the Senate is considering raising the income tax to 5%… * 8:25 pm - Cross cracks wise about reports that former GOP governors Thompson and Edgar have been calling House Republican members about the tax hike vote…

he’ll be even more shocked when 6 of his members vote for it
- DuPage Dave - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 8:42 pm:
Jim and Jim say “Hey- we’re still well-respected party members and we both raised taxes!! OK, maybe just respected.”
- Boxing Cross - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 8:47 pm:
But Boxed Tom did get “the call” from Blaggo and gave him the $34 billion blank check last year
- Steve - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:00 pm:
Jim Thompson sure is something. He’s been a supporter of Mayor Daley and was on Blago’s transition team. Now we have Jim Edgar in the mix also. Who needs a Republican party in Illinois when these are your elder statesmen?
- OneMan - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:02 pm:
Even if some house GOP vote for the tax increase it isn’t going to be the GOP wearing the jacket for this one kids.
- Way to go Tommy - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:04 pm:
Cross once again shows his pompous arrogance. Did anyone else find his comments about deceased governors very disrespectful? Real leadership.
- Easy - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:14 pm:
i think some humor is required when democrats say they don’t have the votes to raise the income tax to 4.5%, so they are going to try to raise it to 5%. pure insanity.
No Rod, but we are getting the same result from Democrat leadership.
- rich winston - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:28 pm:
Shadrach Bond just sent Madigan a telegraph asking him to raise taxes.
- Boxing Cross - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:31 pm:
Maybe Boxed Tom never got Edgar/Thompson calls cause Lee and the AntiChrist never gave him his own phone?
- Cheswick - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:32 pm:
Disrespectful? Not even. It was hilarious. Although, I noticed he conveniently left out Gov. Ogilvie.
- rich winston - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:36 pm:
What I find the best about Boxing Tom is that he is either a novice or doesn’t accept the reality of the situation. Mike Madigan passes the worst budget last year, wants to raise taxes this year, his caucus finally seems to be spurning him and here is this guy pretending that Cross is in the bad spot. I recommend you read the Tribune or Sun-Times and not your own blog posts.

Who is the “Present Vote”? There is a real profile in courage. Must be someone contemplating running for President some day.
- Redbyrd returns - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 9:50 pm:
Not sure i understand the whole it is up to Tom Cross to pass the income tax statements. Cullerton was able to pass the income tax without any Repub help. Is he the more powerful leader of the Democrats after only one term? Has MJM lost his ability to twist arms?
- ConfusedBoxingParade - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 11:39 pm:
Maybe Boxing Cross is starting to feel a bit “boxed” himself. He already must feel like Sybil, blogging under all these different goofy names (plus his own on occasion), that some stress and confusion is understandable.
- kris kross - Saturday, May 30, 09 @ 11:58 pm:
BE A MAN CROSS AND PUT SOME VOTES ON IT!!!!!!!!
- Madigan's Mess - Sunday, May 31, 09 @ 7:39 am:
Hopefully Cross won’t put any votes on this Democrat created fiscal mess that is Illinois. Everyone in Springfield raves about the power of Madigan, but he cant find the votes on this issue? Please… I’m sure Madigan would love for Cross to help him out here.. It’s time for the Dems to pay politically for their gross mismanagement of our States Finances..
- Cross Road Blues - Sunday, May 31, 09 @ 10:17 am:
1. Waiting for Madigan to say “Revenue IS reform.” Maybe then a few more Dems will sign on. 2. Cross’ comments about deceased governors was about as innocuous as it comes. I thought he deadpanned it rather well. Last time MJM showed that kind of charisma Gov. Oglesby had milk shoot out his nose.
