Good morning!
Friday, Jun 26, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * Recent events have prompted me to think about my own eventual demise (which, hopefully, isn’t for a long while). This is one of the songs I’d like played at whatever event is held. In case it happens sooner than I expect, bonus points if this band (which I have tickets to see Saturday in Chicago) plays it live… River gonna take me, sing me sweet and sleepy What are your final requests?

That was a great start to my day. I say this without hyperbole, may you live a long time and may drag performance still be legal by the time you go.
No services for me please. Have a listen to “Red Hot and Blue” for me though when the time comes, my favorte CD of the 80s amongst so many great ones.

My great aunt’s services were recently held and her son has friends who play professionally. There were two absolutely spectacularly performed songs at the church, a vocal performance accompanied by piano and a guitar/stand up bass vocal number.
My second cousin played guitar accompanied by the stand up bass graveside. It was a beautiful bluegrass take on a hymn which was such a perfect tribute to a woman who was one of the few people I can say lived a life of goodness. It made me truly glad.
I can’t tell you what the songs were but it was truly beautiful.

I don’t want a funeral in the traditional way. I will be cremated, my ashes and my recently passed yellow lab ashes will be mixed together. At the gathering that may be held, I want TAPS played, the Army Song and Blood upon the Risers played. The last song will be Enter Sandman. Our ashes are to be spread in the woods to return to the nature that I enjoyed.
- Pot calling kettle - Friday, Jun 26, 26 @ 11:45 am:
A bottomless keg of Guinness (everyone must have at least one small glass) and a playlist that includes the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band, various Mickey Hart projects, Santana, Willie Nelson, the Talking Heads, Wet Leg, the Black Pumas, Rodrigo y Gabriella, and Brandi Carlisle. It would conclude with the Decembrists last album played in full with a repeat of “Burial Ground” to wrap things up.
Or, whatever the family wants to do; it is for the survivors after all. I just hope it’s a great party.
- Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Jun 26, 26 @ 12:09 pm:
Bluegrass is in my blood. So it would have to be something like Let the Circle Be Unbroken, Angel Band, or Who Will Sing For Me. Just so long as it isn’t One Drop of Water…
